A Pandora’s Children Single
I have decided to pull five of my favorite stories from my Pandora’s Children collection and release them as $.99 standalone stories.
In “Swim”, a mother faces the consequences of her actions after her three children die in a late night car accident on an icy road (6,000 words)
Please note that this story has been previously published in Pandora’s Children Book 5: Speaking with the Dead ($199) and Pandora’s Children: The Complete Nightmares Book 1($2.99), so if you have read either of those, don’t bother with this. But if you haven’t delved into the Pandora’s Children books yet, and don’t want to spend more than $.99, this is a good place to start.

O n a Friday afternoon before Labor Day, Americans are getting ready for the holiday weekend, completely unaware of a long-planned terrorist plot about to be launched against the country. Kyle Tait is settling in for his flight home to Montana when a single nuclear bomb is detonated 300 miles above the heart of America. The blast, an Electro-Magnetic Pulse (EMP), destroys every electrical device in the country, and results in the crippling of the power grid, the shutting down of modern communications, and bringing to a halt most forms of transportation.
Kyle narrowly escapes when his airplane crashes on take-off, only to find himself stranded 2,000 miles from home in a country that has been forced, from a technological standpoint, back to the 19th Century. Confused, hurt, scared, and alone, Kyle must make his way across a hostile continent to a family he’s not even sure has survived the effects of the attack. As Kyle forges his way home, his frightened family faces their own struggles for survival in a community trying to halt its slow spiral into chaos and anarchy.
77 Days in September follows Kyle and his wife, Jennifer, as they are stretched past their breaking point, but find in their devotion to each other the strength to persevere.

WHAT IS AN EMP?
An EMP (Electro-Magnetic Pulse) is a magnetic pulse that overwhelms, and thus destroys, all electronic devices exposed to it. It is the most serious threat faced by a technologically advanced society. An EMP can be human caused, through the detonation of a nuclear bomb high above the atmosphere, or natural, through a severe geo-magnetic storm. In multiple reports prepared for Congress, scientists predict the complete destruction of modern American society and question our ability to ever recover if we are the target of an EMP attack. Further, some predict the death toll in America in the aftermath of such an event to be in excess of 200 million.

2 4-year old Pax Tate is an asshole.
Seriously.
He’s a tattooed, rock-hard bad-boy with a bad attitude to match.
But he’s got his reasons.
His mother died when Pax was seven, leaving a hole in his heart filled with guilt although he doesn’t understand why. What he does know is that he and his dad are left alone and with more issues than they can count.
As Pax grew up, he tried to be the kid his father always wanted; the perfect golden boy, but it didn’t work. His dad couldn’t overcome his grief long enough to notice and Pax couldn’t keep up the impossible perfect façade.
So he slipped far, far from it.
Now, he uses drugs and women to cope with the ugliness, the black void that he doesn’t want to deal with. If he pretends that the emptiness isn’t there, then it isn’t, right?
Wrong.
And it’s never more apparent than when he meets Mila.
Sweet, beautiful Mila Hill is the fresh air to his hardened frown, the beauty to his ugly heart. He doesn’t know how to not hurt her, but he quickly realizes that he’d better figure it out because he needs her to breathe.
When memories of his mother’s death resurface from where he’s repressed them for so long, Mila is there to catch him when the guilt starts making sense. Mila is the one…the one who can save him from his broken troubled heart; from his issues, from the emptiness.
But only if he can stop being an asshole long enough to allow it.
He knows that. And he’s working on it.
But is that enough to make her stay?

V erity Montague is a servant in 1692 Salem. Her flaming red hair and mismatched eyes make her a prime target for accusation of witchcraft. Orphaned during the Indian raids, she and her brother with Asperger’s Syndrome come to live with the key historical figures of the trials-The Putnams. They keep their synesthesia secret- that days, months and years appear as color in Verity’s mind, and for John, that symphonies play in a Fantasia-style performance of colors and geometric patterns.
Truman Johnstone ‘s ability to discern people’s expressions, and decipher if they were lying- made him an outspoken child. Being different kept him from being adopted till he was fourteen. He now runs an orphanage for problem youths, and is a feeding therapist in his desire to help children deal with their peculiarities. To give them the childhood he never had.
The harvest festival corn maze Truman creates every year has an unwelcome visitor. Children hear disembodied voices skipping through the corn maze amid the backdrop of eerie orchestral music. In every year of the calendar, intermittent doors of time swing open and closed, so long as the cornfield stands.
In societies set on sameness-all are outsiders.

Part of My World: Short Stories by Kim Bongiorno
Genre(s): Literature & Fiction, Anthologies & Literary Collections, General, Short Stories, Anthologies, Fiction, Genre Fiction
L ove. Fear. Passion. Hope. Walk through the many worlds of human experience that live in the creative mind of up-and-coming author Kim Bongiorno. In this collection of twenty-one short stories you will meet a troubled teenager, fallen princess, reunited lovers, creatures from afar and more. Funny, sexy, macabre, and heart wrenching, there’s something for everyone woven into these tales.
What Readers Are Saying About PART OF MY WORLD:
“In Part of My World: Short Stories, Kim Bongiorno stakes out new territory as a fiction writer, and lucky readers who go along for the ride are in for adventure. Utterly original, but somehow instantly recognizable characters populate fully realized worlds–some completely magical, others all-too-real. Story after story, I found myself staring at the last page, surprised, satisfied, and wishing for more. Each vignette is a revelation–and so is Kim.”
Peyton Price, author of Suburban Haiku: Boys to Men
“Kim’s short stories left me breathless. I wish I were one of her characters, or that I could see the world through her eyes even for one day.”
Leslie Marinelli, Editor-in-Chief at InThePowderRoom
“While I always enjoy Kim’s humorous take on “Let Me Start By Saying” about the everyday adventures of being a stay at home mom, wife and writer, this collection of stories reminds readers that she also has a clear love and talent for fiction writing as well. From beginning to end, the reader is treated with poignant, often sensual stories that leave you wanting to read more, to find out where the characters will take you along next. It’s also a testament to the power of writing groups in that when prompted, great things are created.”
Abby Heugel, author of Abby Has Issues
“In her debut anthology, Kim Bongiorno brings together a series of 21 brilliant short fictional stories, each with the power to captivate and entertain. The collection covers a range of topics from forbidden love to terror to desire to, what I call, “fairy tales for adults” and more. In many cases, I felt an immediate connection with the central character. Intriguing and unpredictable, each story drew me in and took hold; I even let out a chuckle or two. After reading this magnificent collection, I am certain this isn’t the last we’ll see of this entrancing storyteller. I, for one, very much look forward to seeing what else Kim has up her sleeve.”
Stephanie Young, author of How to Eat Healthy Without Noticing
“Kim is best known for her humorous writings, but with this collection of short stories she shares her soul with us and allows us to see another side of her.”
Jen, author of Spending the Holidays with People I Want to Punch in the Throat
“I’ve always loved Kim’s fiction because it doesn’t fling open doors, it only cracks them open, leaving me eager to crash through. Take ‘In The Trees.’ A colorfully articulated hive of creatures that are part animal, part rescue squad? I doubt anyone can read that story without wanting more. Where Kim’s imagination lives is a place I’d like to vacation.”
Nicole Leigh Shaw, Writer and Humorist
“Kim Bongiorno, whom I was first introduced through her humorous writings, has a true talent for more than just her award-winning witty works. This time, in her collection of short story fiction, the reader is immediately drawn into her word-painted scenes with a variety of interesting characters. Captivating, creative, and leaves me wanting to read even more…”

Reviews
“The book felt REAL – the journey, the characters, the struggles… Everything that happened was believable, powerful, and very well written and I found myself unable to stop thinking about the story even when I wasn’t reading it.” -Aestas Book Blog
“This was a very emotional and difficult read for me. However, I strongly recommend this powerful and poignant story. It is one that cannot and must not go unrecognized. Walters did a wonderfully moving and thoughtful job of telling Clay and Maggie’s story. I eagerly await the continuation to this story.” -Flirty and Dirty Book Blog
