DESCRIPTION:

Enter a galaxy full of snarky comebacks and inappropriate use of tentacles. Standing up to the man, er, Neon Octopus Overlord in this case, has never been more fun.

Destroyer of Planets is a fast-paced Sci-Fi comedy adventure. It's full of galactic government conspiracies, bureaucratic shenanigans, brainwashing, and Kirian's hacker ex-boyfriend, Fleek.

Yes, this story really does have a Neon Octopus Overlord in charge of the galaxy. Her name is Soda and you're going to love her even though she's evil,or perhaps because of it. All you really need to know is that the tone of the book is snarky, the conflict between Ari and the Overlord gets very personal, and there are two more books in this fun trilogy.

Basically, this is the story of Ari. She's a brilliant and underappreciated civil servant. She thinks she's having a bad day when she gets fired for confronting her embezzling boss.
Her day gets even worse when she's targeted for assassination because of her intelligence. The assassin, Kirian, works for the Overlord against her will and would like to be free. Kirian changes her mind and saves Ari instead, counting on her help. Tired of being underestimated, Ari sets out to thwart the Overlord and save her new friend.
Excerpt from Chapter 1:
"You know, for somebody who's in charge of the entire galaxy, you have an awful lot of free time."
This caused what Drexyl guessed was amused sputtering on her part.
"I am the most powerful being in the galaxy," she cooed. "In fact, I'm immortal. Why not enjoy my time? This pitiful galaxy's leaders are always inviting me to go to their stupid, boring meetings. They demand reports and input and answers, but it's tedious," she wheezed at him through rubbery lips. "I don't do the things other beings consider important because I don't have to. That's the meaning of real power."
She sighed and ran a sucker-encrusted tentacle across his face. He gritted his teeth.
"Immortality's a funny thing, Drexyl," she continued. "What nobody tells you is that after millennia to reflect, you realize there are far worse things in the universe than death. Endless monotony. Finding out your favorite restaurant went out of business. Budget meetings."

That is, until she discovers an unconscious airman lying in the snow wearing a Luftwaffe uniform, his parachute flapping in the wind. Unwilling to let him die, Franka takes him to her family’s isolated cabin despite her hatred for the regime he represents. But when it turns out that he is not who he seems, Franka begins a race against time to unravel the mystery of the airman’s true identity. Magic isn’t for sissies.

No good comes from this book. The story has magic, mayhem, theft, murder, sass talk, demons, animals committing felonies, gleeful revenge, and bad things happening to good people for no particular reason. It won’t encourage good habits and probably fine tune bad ones. The only lesson learned is don’t lie unless you know the rules.

Teenager Peter Whistler lives at the Little Angels Home for Orphan Boys. Life in New Jersey is harsh in the Great Depression, but Peter has an exceptional ability to lie. He hones his talent, convinced it’s the ticket to easy fortune. He certainly doesn’t foresee the arrival of a murderous conjurer with mysterious designs on a little blind girl named Esther. Drawn into a nefarious plot to unleash a demon, Peter leads Esther and an enchanted terrier on a desperate escape to New Orleans and meets Amelie Marchand. Like all well-bred southern girls she’s trained in deadly martial arts, but with a murderous stepmother, Amelie has troubles of her own. Peter and Amelie’s one chance for survival is to head deep into the bayou and seek help from a mad shaman known as the Frog King.

Welcome to an alternate 1930s where both jazz and magic fill New Orleans’ air. Can a little luck, mystical lies, and a dash of Cajun crazy help Peter harness the power to kill an immortal demon? If not, the Depression will be a picnic by comparison when hell arrives on Earth.

2017 Independent Author Network Winner – Best Comedy / Satire Novel

What a mess. This was not supposed to happen.

This isn’t where Nick Owen thought he would be by this point in life. He used to be a busy web programmer. Now he spends most of his energy trying to stop his three-year-old twins from playing in a dirty sand pit. Nick thinks of himself as Daddy 3.0, a stay-at-home-dad–but he just wasn’t programmed for this.

He must navigate a new world of jungle gyms and playdates while supporting his surgeon wife. He tries his best to be there for the twins, but he can’t stop making a mess of things. He’s just about nearing the end of his rope when the Swing Incident happens. The Swing Incident, spoken of in hushed tones around Nick’s New York City apartment building, has caused the resident queen bee, nicknamed “Supermom,” to declare him an enemy for life. No matter what Nick does to get back into Supermom’s good graces, he fails spectacularly.

Now Nick’s going to have to learn to fight fire with fire and become the best superparent on the block. This hilarious new book by Rob Armstrong chronicles one man’s journey into the world of modern fatherhood–one botched haircut, playground fight, and dirty diaper at a time.

Stay-at-home-dads have a new hero, of sorts.

Other Reader Reviews

“Hilarious daddy 3.0..story about a computer geek turned stay at home dad..the best part someone asks towards the end, my husband is the oldest version 1.0, where can I upgrade him cheap..wish the author would have given a link for the upgrade” – Mathangi Sri, India

“It did not take me long to read this book simply because, once started, I didn’t want to stop reading. The only thing slowing me down were the tears in my eyes from laughing so much. The situational comedy was absolutely hilarious. I kept thinking, “I’d love to see this movie.” The quality of the writing added to the reading pleasure. If this is the first book, I look forward to his second, third and more.” – Chuck Hossack, PA
