Spy. Traitor. Soldier. Savior.

War was hell for former spy and turncoat Marta Childress, but peace may be worse. Hated by both sides in the civil war that tore the nation of Newfield apart, she wants nothing more than to quietly live out her remaining days in the West.

But then her duplicitous brother arrives with one final mission.

Tasked with delivering the catatonic daughter of an infamous inventor in hiding, Marta must cross the continent to delve deep into the East on a mission that will either save the nation or spark a second civil war.

Along the way, she’ll battle creatures composed entirely of dead breath, face assassins armed with deadly glass daggers, lead soldiers in psychic body armor, and face down the devil herself.

DESCRIPTION:

One of life’s biggest clichés becomes a horrific reality when Douglas Segal’s wife and young daughter are hit head-on by a Los Angeles city bus. Miraculously, his daughter was unharmed, but his wife faced a series of life-threatening injuries, including the same one that famously left Christopher Reeve paralyzed. Following the accident, Segal began sending regular email updates to their circle of friends and family–a list that continued to grow as others heard of the event and were moved by the many emotional and spiritual issues it raised. Segal’s compelling memoir is an intimate and honest chronicle built around these email updates, and is a profound example of how people show up for one another in times of crisis.

Alternatingly harrowing, humorous, heartbreaking, and hopeful, this is an uplifting tribute to love, determination, and how the compassion of community holds the power to heal, serving as an inspiring testament to the resilience of the human spirit when faced with pain and adversity.

DESCRIPTION:

WHAT HAPPENED IN VIETNAM HASN’T STAYED IN VIETNAM!
Silent Spring – Deadly Autumn of the Vietnam War is not just another book about Agent Orange of the Vietnam War. Rather it is a “silver bullet” which cuts through the heart of the circumstances and pesticides used during that war–highly toxic herbicides and insecticides which in some cases are still being used to this very day all over the world.

The book is much more than a memoir of one Vietnam veteran’s struggles over the decades after the war. It is a full-length analysis of the various conditions in Vietnam and the chemicals that were unleashed on not only the enemy but also on US service personnel. Pat Hogan, the author and the main subject in the biography portion of the book, chronicles his early life and enlistment into the war in the mid-’60s. He starts with the life story of a friend and fellow vet, Larry White, who died decades later from numerous complications of the pesticides he was exposed to while stationed in Vietnam.

Hogan returned from Vietnam in ’69 and started having minor health difficulties himself. He became a police officer and then a police academy instructor. It is this occupational skill set–his investigative and analytical ability–that truly brings a high impact to the rest of the book. As you read through the volumes of information, you will be absolutely stunned at what the US government had willingly dumped on Vietnam and its own troops. In fact, in the book’s postscript, the author even makes a case for some of those same chemicals still being used today on you and your children, not just in the U.S. but all over the globe.

I don’t fit into the world around me.

My brother and father are far more the billionaire type.

Art is what wakes me up. Expressing my soul through a paintbrush.

That and the beautiful woman that stole my heart years ago.

But she belongs to their world. An executive for the accounting firm my family runs.

And we live clear across the country from one another, but that doesn’t stop the way I feel.

Every time I see her, I want to change everything about myself until she takes notice.

Funnily enough, she doesn’t want me to change a damn thing.

She says that now, but when she finds out all that I desire of her, with her, she might not be so compliant.

Or maybe that’s what she’s been waiting on this whole time.
