Starship pilot Alan Abrams crippled his younger brother Jimmy in a childhood scuffle, and spent his entire life trying to make up for it. But when humanity turns away from the stars, his career evaporates and he can no longer afford his brother’s care.
Then Alan gets a mysterious offer to join an interstellar expedition searching for a long-lost starship. The paycheck will support his brother forever. The downside? An untrustworthy, fractious team. An evasive, domineering backer. And a murder attempt before Alan even
takes the offer.
Alan finds himself piloting a ship attacked by a hostile universe outside, and inside filled with sabotage, deceit, and murder.
For centuries, humanity sought intelligent life among the stars. Alan’s expedition finds it. Unfortunately.
Amazon 5 star review – The protagonist has a lovely dark past. The science fiction has original ideas. The internal threats are all too human, the external ones solidly inhuman. The science fiction tinged with horror works on many levels. And there’s sabotage, and trust, and arguments. Full of love and sacrifice and broken promises and secrets and the need to not only survive, go home again.
This book is about xenophobia. It’s about the many ways we face the fear of The Other.
Genre(s): Horror | Humor
A man who finds a severed nose on a plate on his dining room table. A bell that can summon Satan (maybe). Casual Fridays at work that get out of control. A cheery outlook on the post-apocalyptic landscape. The final thoughts of a doomed skydiver. A girl punished by having to share a bed with her grandmother’s corpse. Revenge via baking a tarantula into a cake. A romance between two carnivorous genetically enhanced plants. And the lost tale of Fangboy.
These are only a few of the demented stories in DEAD CLOWN BARBECUE, a collection of twenty-nine gleefully macabre tales, seven of which were written just for this collection. There’s even a brand new one about a ventriloquist dummy. Those things creep you out, right? You’ll laugh. You’ll scream. Okay…you probably won’t actually scream, unless you already had issues before you started reading, but you might cringe and get a little spooked.
