B AD TRAFFICK named a 2012 Top 5 Indie Pick by BloodWrites and a Top Pick by Night Owl Reviews
Although Bad Traffick is part of a series, it is a standalone novel and can be read by itself. That being said, if you like the characters, then be sure to pick up Serial Date, the critically-acclaimed first novel in the Leine Basso series.
Identified as a person of interest in three cold case murders she didn’t commit, and required to stay in L.A., ex-assassin Leine Basso accepts a temporary position as a security specialist for A-list actor Miles Fournier, who believes he is the target of kidnappers. Leine finds she has her hands full trying to protect the head-strong celebrity, while at the same time fighting her desire for Detective Santiago Jensen; a game she knows she won’t win.
Soon, a woman contacts Miles, claiming to be his long-lost sister. She confesses her twelve-year-old daughter, Mara, has been abducted by sex-traffickers and she’s desperate to get her back, hoping that Miles will use his considerable resources to find her.
Leine learns from a contact at a rescue organization that Mara escaped and is alone on the streets in the sprawling city of Los Angeles. The traffickers are determined to track her down and deliver her to the powerful client who purchased her for his twisted ends. F irst-time private investigator Eddie Greene is having a bad weekend. It’s about to get worse …
When he finds the slab-cold body of his first client, he knows something’s up – he only spoke to her fifteen minutes earlier.
Free-wheeling, swash-buckling, trash-talking Eddie is not just out of place in a humdrum northern town. He’s out of his depth on his first case, out of funds from a now deceased client and out of favour with Weighton’s big society.
As Friday night slides into Saturday morning, each twist in the case turns a bad situation worse; the police want him for murder, the local crime boss wants him dead, the mayor wants him out of town and his girlfriend wants him out of her life.
Increasingly desperate, Eddie takes on all-comers in a barnstorming bid to crack the case and clear his name. And somewhere between all the froth and fury, his affections are reclaimed by the girl who got away – but will she abide ‘til Monday?
“Great fun with some cracking jokes – ‘this femme is fatale’ being my favourite – it reminded me of the Lynne Truss serial on Radio 4.” Sue Fletcher, Deputy MD, Hodder & Stoughton
“Faultless – engaging, controlled, visual and fast-paced. Lots of action and a strong sense of tongue-in-cheek.” Caroline Smailes, Harper Collins author, ‘In Search of Adam’
“It’s like ‘Film Noir’ meets ‘Phoenix Nights’!” Mark Roman, author of ‘Ultimate Inferior Beings’ on Cogwheel Press.

M eara isn’t thinking about death, that morning, when she kisses her mother good-bye, but hours later she is, as her fingers slide into the back of Mother’s shattered skull. Empty eyes – the empty eyes of her mother – stare right through her and Meara thinks her world has ended. She has no idea.
Ebullient and feisty, eighteen-year-old Meara MacDonald lives an idyllic life with her family, on the mist-enfolded Isle of Skye, dreaming of the day when she will wed her heart, the gallant Duncan MacLeod. But fate has other plans and when Aunt Deirdre and Uncle Sloan seep into their midst, Meara’s family is taken, one-by-one, for reasons she discovers are both personal and nefarious.
Mother is found dead, Da disappears, Duncan is taken by the Napoleonic Wars, Meara’s younger sister, Hannah – with child by Uncle Sloan – takes her own life and while Meara sleeps, her newborn son is snatched from her arms.
Unable to reign in her spirit or her tongue, Meara finds herself catapulted from Scotland to a household steeped in mystery in Nova Scotia where, guided by her strength of will, she will fight her way back to the remains of her family; her heart and soul.

W hen down-on-herself Rebecca Fowley traipses after a small, intriguing insect and on to the private property of heart-hardened rancher Elias Dellin, confusion and attraction abound. Rebecca is certain that she’s just become turned around in the brush by the highway and Elias is just as sure that she’s 45 miles away from the nearest town. Convinced to return with him to the family farm, Rebecca encounters Elias’ all-seeing but completely blind grandmother, Aurora, and a scene right out of an old western. But her first assumptions that the family is part of a strange society of re-enactors are wiped clean when Elias adamantly assures her that the year is 1843. Rebecca knows this can’t be true; when she parked her car to stretch her legs it was 1999. But just because their birthdays are separated by 165 years doesn’t mean it can’t work, especially with a couple of ethereal beings on their side.
