R ookie cop Brandy Wilcox grew up on her own, on the run, and on the wrong side of the tracks. One burning desire drives her–her quest to prove her mother was wrongfully convicted of murder. She never trusted anyone, not until she met her new field training officer Lieutenant Blade Beringer. The Stetson-wearing half of a canine team, Beringer, is honest, fair, and respectable–everything Brandy aspires to be.
Blade finds training the feisty recruit a challenge, especially when Brandy turns him on like no other woman has. He’d like to get close to her in more ways than one…but he shouldn’t. Department rules forbid fraternizing between deputies, and he has personal reasons for avoiding a close emotional relationship with any woman.
When Brandy realizes the number one suspect on her most-wanted list is Blade’s idol, she doubts their growing and forbidden attraction has a snowball’s chance in the Idaho sun.
Will they live long enough to find out if the fragile bond between them can survive? The odds are against them as they investigate a ten-year-old murder case, as they match wits and brawn with a monster rig on a curvy mountainous road, as they tackle a raging torrent-drenched river, dodge bullets, arrows, and radical supremacists, and finally, as they confront madmen in the process of detonating a bomb at the nearby dam.
“Too Sexy For His Stetson, a must read for the adrenaline junky.”
* * *
Brandy’s trigger finger twitched. A bead of sweat tickled its way down her backbone. She was inexperienced, off duty, and miles from her truck, which sat near a trailhead in the mountainous wilderness of northern Idaho, and the intruder she held at gunpoint probably had seventy muscled pounds on her.
She studied the cowboy’s sweet-as-honey, wicked-as-sin smile through the sights of her department-issued Remington semiautomatic rifle. From his pose on the rickety porch of the old log cabin, he assessed her right back. His full lips tugged across Crest-white teeth, exposing a small but sexy gap between his central incisors.
He tipped his head toward the jimmied-open window. “I know this looks bad, Ma’am, but I can explain,” he drawled out “Ma’am” again.
“Deputy Sheriff Brandy Wilcox. Keep your hands where I can see them.”
“Brandy?” Impervious to the deputy sheriff title, he straightened and angled his dusty black Stetson over his forehead so the brim shadowed his cool-water eyes. “Name like that could make a man real thirsty.”
Brandy had heard just about every come-on in the book, but never from a trespasser on the business end of her rifle. She calculated his over-confident grin, the twinkle in his eyes, the tilt of his head–blond curly hair no less. A sensual package that promised a ride on the wild side–if one was so inclined. Which she was not.
Yet something primal tugged deep in her stomach.
Bracing the Remington more firmly against her shoulder, she steadied her aim and revved up her grit. This guy was banking on his wild smile a little too heavily. What he needed was some taming.
“Okay, drop ‘em.”
When he lowered his arms, she said, “Not your hands, your pants.”
For several beats, he stared at her like he hadn’t heard.
“Lose your Levis,” she urged again. She had no desire to shoot him, but she didn’t have handcuffs on her and she wasn’t about to chance his getting away. If it came to a footrace, his long muscular legs could outrun her in a heartbeat. But he couldn’t get far stomping barefoot in his skivvies through the mountainous shale-scabbed terrain. Not that making a break for it was something she intended to let him try.
“Excuse me? You want me to strip?” A trill of elation noticeably brightened his whisky-smooth voice. His expression bounced between “this is my lucky day” and disbelief.

O n the 24th of February 2007 my husband, Stuart, drowned himself at sea, leaving me widowed with two young daughters aged six and four. I knew it wasn’t an accident, even though the medics and police never suspected suicide. Stuart had been talking about ending his life for a year. His most recent suicide attempt had been only three weeks earlier. Afterwards, he explained that day as the most peaceful day of his life. Sitting next to the dam, he smoked his last cigarette. He drank a hundred sleeping pills and did a final check to make sure everything would look like an accident. The last thing he remembered was swimming out into the crystal clear water. He said that he was no longer scared of dying, that there was nothing scary about it. Living was the scary thing.
It Rains In February: A Wife’s Memoir of Love and Loss is the true story of a husband’s depression and obsession, not only with another woman, but also with ending his life. In this honest and heartfelt narrative, Leila Summers weaves a compelling tale of the year that led up to Stuart’s suicide and the grief, profound loss and self discovery that followed. Although each suicide is unique, this book gives the reader an insider’s view from one perspective by way letters and e-mail messages.

W HEN CONTROL OF THE VATICAN IS AT STAKE–MONEY TALKS, AND NOBODY PLAYS FAIR.
Italian intelligence specialist Michael Visconte is shocked by the brutal murder of a Jesuit priest, who turns out to be a hedge fund manager for the Vatican. The victim, Father Matteo Pintozzi, achieved an unblemished record of extraordinary returns.
The next day, Michael is visited by two Jesuits who ask him to investigate the murder, and Michael soon finds himself in the middle of a struggle for power and control over the finances of the Vatican. Unfortunately, his lucky break–one that should provide critical evidence–blurs the line between good and evil and not only endangers the lives of Michael and the Jesuits, but also imperils the lives of his wife and children.
From the Back Cover
“A word of advice Mr. Visconte. This is Vatican business. It’s dangerous to forget that.”
Michael Visconte never forgot the Vatican Bank’s $250 million payoff to the defrauded depositors of Banco Ambrosiano or the murder of Roberto Calvi. The fresh corpse at his feet told him it was far from over. He thought he already knew the consequences of double-crossing the Vatican.
But that was before he agreed to help the Jesuits blackmail the Pope…
Praise for Archangels: Rise of the Jesuits
“This fast-paced thriller…doesn’t stint on intrigue…enough authenticity and adventure to ensure readers will keep turning the pages.”

With his acknowledged individual storytelling expertise, D. M. Mitchell pens yet another taut psychological thriller with a difference that twists and turns to its deliciously devious and unexpected conclusion. Discover for yourself why D. M. Mitchell is being hailed as one of the most exciting new writers of thriller and supernatural tales in the UK.
From reviews of Mouse:
If you are a fan of psychological thrillers this is a must read. It reminded me very much of Ruth Rendell’s novels – It’s really that good!
D.M. Mitchell is extremely talented, he is gifted with the ability to transport the reader in such a way as to make it possible for the reader to visualise the book as though you are there witnessing scenes & events as they unfold.
Try D.M. Mitchell, I wasn’t disappointed!
Fantastic read. Well written and delightfully thought out plot. Kept me awake all night. Cannot wait to read another D.M. Mitchell book.
Mitchell, an Englishman, is a poetic talent. But this is a psychological thriller, so be prepared for a wild ride.
‘They played a cruel game of cat and mouse – but someone forgot to tell the mouse the rules…’
It’s the summer of 1976 and Vince Moody is a quiet and unassuming projectionist at the run-down Empire cinema in the small town of Langbridge in the middle of the Somerset Levels.
His life is a drudge, and he’s going nowhere; the only female attention he gets is a stream of cruel jokes and jibes from the Empire’s cleaners, and especially from the obnoxious Monica Andrews. But his life is about to change dramatically when he sees and falls secretly in love with Laura Leach.
Laura lives all alone in an 18th Century folly known as Devereux Towers; a brooding old building sitting alone in its field a few miles from Langbridge. Recently returned to the area to bury her father and having inherited Devereux Towers, Laura is something of a recluse. The local children call Laura the ‘Witch of Devereux Towers’; some people call her ‘damaged goods’. She too is lonely and unassuming, a desperately troubled woman haunted by her dark, secret past. Haunted by what lies behind the blue-painted door in Devereux Towers which Laura lets no one enter…
Then Laura Leach meets Casper Younge. He’s handsome, well-spoken, gentle and loving, and Laura falls head-over-heels in love with him. Vince Moody is devastated to have lost the woman of his dreams, but he soon discovers that Casper Younge is not all he first appears. He’s blackmailing the Empire’s manager, Martin Caldwell, for one thing; and who is the attractive woman Vince sees Casper meeting in Glastonbury? What plans are they hatching?
Martin Caldwell is having serious troubles of his own, aside from managing the failing Empire cinema – his affair with Monica Andrews the cleaner has gone horribly wrong. His world is falling apart, and the last thing he wants is a visit from Casper Younge dredging up a murky past he thought he’d left behind.
Then both Casper and Monica go missing; the longer they are gone, the more the thoughts turn to their possible deaths. But if they are dead, who is responsible for killing them?
Soon, everyone is caught up in a dangerous spiral of events that draws them inexorably into a world of jealousy, deceit, passion, blackmail and murder, where the hunter becomes the hunted, the mice turn on the cats.
Set against the impressive yet claustrophobic landscape of the Somerset Levels, Mouse is a chilling exploration of the corrupt depths people will sink to in the name of revenge, power, greed and love and is D. M. Mitchell at his imaginative best.
