Nine years ago, Molly Tanner witnessed a young girl’s abduction in the busy city of Philadelphia, shifting her occasional clairvoyance into overdrive. Two days later, the girl’s body was found, and Molly’s life fell apart. Consumed by guilt for not acting upon her visions, and on the brink of losing her family, Molly escaped the torturous reminders in the city, fleeing to the safety of the close-knit rural community of Boyds, Maryland.
Molly’s life is back on track, her son has begun college, and she and her husband have finally rekindled their relationship. Their fresh start is shattered when a seven-year-old girl disappears from a local park near Molly’s home. Unable to turn her back on another child and troubled by memories of the past, Molly sets out to find her, jeopardizing the marriage she’d fought so hard to hold together. While unearthing clues and struggling to decipher her visions, Molly discovers another side of Boyds, where the residents–and the land itself–hold potentially lethal secrets, and exposes another side of her husband, one that threatens to tear them apart.

Reviews:
“Marks delivers a sixth-sense thriller with a twist…an intriguing tale with an unlikely protagonist, and he may have also created a new urban-fantasy subgenre…Marks’ prose provides a sense of hope and humanity in bleak situations. He also delivers a thought-provoking story, with a high level of creativity and flair…just the right amount of intensity throughout. An imaginative, offbeat urban-fantasy…” — Kirkus Reviews
“Death Ain’t But A Word is a fast-paced, thrilling book that is both hilarious and heartwarming…an off-the-wall book that is impossible to put down and impossible not to love.” — San Francisco Book Review (5 of 5 stars)

The Addiction of Mary Todd Lincoln by Anne Beidler
Genre(s): Biographies & Memoirs, Leaders & Notable People, Presidents & Heads of State, Specific Groups, Women, History, Americas, United States, 19th Century, Politics & Social Sciences, Women’s Studies, Self-Help, Health Fitness & Dieting, Recovery, Drug Dependency
M ary Todd Lincoln, wife of the president we have immortalized, has always been difficult for us to understand. She could appear poised and brilliant one moment, yet rude and ugly the next. Sometimes competent and strong, able to entertain dignitaries from around the world, at other times she appeared dependent and weak. At times she seemed utterly beside herself with sobbing and screaming.
Historians have mostly avoided saying very much about Mary Todd Lincoln except in reference to her husband, Abraham. To many it would seem that Mary Todd Lincoln is still an embarrassment in the tragic story of her martyred husband. But Mary Todd Lincoln lived her own tragic story even before Abraham was murdered. She was an addict, addicted to the opiates she needed for her migraine headaches.
Seeing Mary Todd Lincoln as an addict helps us understand her and give her the compassion and admiration she deserves. In her time there had been no courageous First Lady like Betty Ford to help people understand the power of addiction. There was no treatment center. In Mary Todd Lincoln’s time there were many addicts at all levels of society, as there are now, but it was a more socially acceptable condition for men to have than for women. More importantly, addiction was not very well understood, and it was often mistreated.
Because Mary Todd Lincoln’s only surviving son, Robert Lincoln, made a great effort to protect his mother and his family from journalists and historians, he intentionally destroyed most of Mary Todd Lincoln’s medical records and many of her letters. What he could not destroy, however, is the record of Mary Todd Lincoln’s pain and the record of how she behaved while living with this pain.
In The Addiction of Mary Todd Lincoln, we can see clearly, for the first time, what Mary Todd Lincoln had to live with and the courage it took for her to carry on.

World of Archangels by Sufian Chaudhary
Genre(s): Religion & Spirituality, Spirituality, Angels, Self-Help, Spiritual
W orld of Archangels is a spiritual masterpiece designed by Archangel Uriel that retraces the self-realization process that allows you to interact with some of the most influential Beings in this Universe. Regardless of who you are, where you come from or what you are doing, this book contains Universal principles that will redefine your spiritual life. The book is filled with Enlightening meditations, Ancient wisdom and uplifting stories of ethereal encounters with the other side. Whether you are a beginner in this field or an old soul wiser than the day, World of Archangels will help you achieve the next level of your spiritual journey.
Throughout history we have been led to believe that there were only 7 primary Chakras within the human body. There are in fact 12 Chakras that act as representatives for the 12 Dimensions that make up our Universal learning environment. World of Archangels delves quite heavily into each of the Dimensions that collectively became known as Creator School. We are each of us developing souls that will one day achieve the 12th Dimension and leave Creation as powerful Creators ourselves. The fundamentals of achieving such a feat revolves around Unconditional Love and expressing ourselves within the extremely heightened existence of Enlightenment. The Archangels are the Beings who convey these teachings down in order to complete the cycle of learning. World of Archangels was written to simply orchestrate such a Divine meeting; the rest is entirely up to Destiny.
The book follows a self-realization process that Archangel Uriel hand-crafted for the sole purpose of awakening souls. Each chapter continues this powerful journey, where by the end of the book, descriptive meditations upon activating and cleansing the Chakras, raising the vibration of the human body, communing with ethereal Beings, psychic self defense, healing and the ability to understand Life beyond normal human perception becomes available. With self-realization in mind, World of Archangels aims to excel the spiritual aspirant onto a pathway of Enlightenment with dedicated meditations to empower the human energetic body beyond the normal limitations.
Here on Earth we may sometimes become bogged down with all manner of disharmonies that cause us to be shackled into a physical life that was effectively set up for us to fail at some point in time. Sometimes we cannot see the light at the end of the tunnel and many times we may even feel burnt by Life itself for no other reason than for the justification of karmic debt. It may be one of the greatest answers to know the meaning of your life and to understand why you are even alive. To genuinely approach an Archangel; these answers may very well be given to you. To live a fulfilling Life, to be free of limitations, to recognize the nature of who you are and where you have come from; this is the result of becoming an awakened soul.

The Red Cross of Gold:. Books I & II (Assassin Chronicles) by Brendan Carroll
Genre(s): Literature & Fiction, Science Fiction & Fantasy, Fantasy, Epic, Paranormal
B uy both books in one volume and save money!
The immortal Knights of the Council of Twelve comprise the ruling body of the clandestine Order of the Red Cross of Gold, Poor Knights of Solomon’s Temple. Some of them have been around since the Crusades in the Holy Lands, secretly directing, aiding and abetting world events that they believe will eventually culminate in the ultimate confrontation of Good and Evil at Armageddon. As Knights of Christ, they live, fight and die safely as God’s executioners in the service of the Master of the Universe.
Book I:. The Knight of Death
The Red Cross of Gold is an ancient order of clandestine Templar Knights left over from the middle ages. A well-worn theme by now, of course, but these Knights are also left over from the middle ages. In fact, many of them are left over from even earlier ages. The story begins when one of them, whose job is dual in nature, Alchemist/Assassin, takes a trip to America in order to retrieve a deserter. The Grand Master’s Apprentice has broken his vows and run off with a couple of young women from Texas. Unfortunately, there is more to his desertion than is first surmised and a high priestess from a rival order is ready and waiting for him. Using an ancient alchemical solution to subdue the Assassin leaves him with a muddled brain and an unfortunate loss of memory. As he falls in love with one of captors, his memory returns in fits and starts by way of dreams and visions while his other captor tries to pry the secret of immortality from his highly disturbed mind. Things get much worse when the Grand Master declares him a possible threat to the order and sends three of his brethren knights to bring him home with or without his head attached to his body.
The surface tension is obvious, forbidden love, conflicted hero, naïve shallow heroine, ruthless antagonists, but there is a hidden conflict within the Assassin that foreshadows things to come in the Epic Fantasy series: The Assassin Chronicles. The series spans an entire century, starting in 2000 and stretching into the future as the mission and origins of the Order of the Red Cross of Gold and its member knights are revealed. Their tale begins in the shadows of prehistory and culminates with the coming of the New Age.
Book II:. The King of Terrors
Mark Ramsay returns to America bent on marrying the girl he left behind, but things are not well on the home front. Two members of his ancient Order set themselves on a dangerous course to stop him at all costs, believing that the marriage will cause the dissolution of the Order. However, his worst enemy lies much closer to his heart when his most beloved Brother weighs into the equation on the wrong side. The Knight of Death places everything on the line as he battles to save the life of his son and win back the woman he loves.

The Prince of Naples: How a 12-year-old boy brought down the Mafia (Book One) by Hugh Gurney
Genre(s): Biographies & Memoirs, True Accounts, Organized Crime, True Crime
T he Prince of Naples is a true story about a child prodigy living under the control of the violent and terrifying organised crime ‘family’ the Camorra. He is driven to an almost obsessive quest for revenge when the earthquake strikes in 1980, destroying the city, and his family and neighbours are all moved to live in aluminium housing in an unsanitary and crowded shanty town.
More than 40 billion euros in aid money flood into Naples after the quake, but the Camorra ‘own’ the construction businesses and the money is syphoned off to line their own pockets. The boy and the Naples people seem doomed to live indefinitely in rat-infested shanty towns while, just a few miles away, the Camorra and their accomplices live in luxury villas.
The boy’s need for revenge grows along with his rage until he is driven to take actions that no ordinary child could conceive. Even though he is just 12 years old, he ends up getting deeply involved with the Camorra. The Prince of Naples is the story of his revenge and how he avoids capture because no one can imagine his violent and destructive actions are those of a schoolboy.
The boy is now a man and he lives outside Italy under an assumed identity.
PRESS REVIEWS:
“This is the true story of ‘The Prince’, a child prodigy who takes on the corrupt and terrifying Camorra, (the Naples Mafia) but there’s nothing they can do without a clue to the identity of their fearless enemy. No one suspects it’s The Prince who has the perfect disguise – he is 12 years old.
“If his youth isn’t enough to waylay suspicion, The Prince also plays dumb, pretending to be just like any other kid – a device that provides the reader with that lovely stomach-squeezing type of excitement and hope that drives classic adventure novels, such as The Scarlet Pimpernel and The Count of Monte Cristo. The constant promise that his true identity will be revealed – that he is a genius and not the ordinary boy he’s pretending to be – is a hook that makes this book unputdownable. The Prince of Naples has all the fuel that any good adventure needs.” – THE HUFFINGTON POST
“This tale of a modern-day Robin Hood who takes on the Mafia is both shocking and astounding!” -NUTS Magazine
“I really like this book!” -THE SUN
“Crime biography at its best. This will become the story of the year” –NOW! Magazine
“This book reads like a Hollywood movie which makes it all the more incredible that it’s true!” -BEAUTIFUL Magazine

Nothing like a murder to get the blood flowing
When James Blake discovers his wife has been murdered in their London home, he is determined to find her killer. Julia, a conservator – a protector and preserver of fine art – has left him with just two clues: the words help me on her mobile phone and a strange attachment of Michelangelo’s Leda and the Swan.

‘The writing gives you the feel of actually being in Italy – you can taste it and smell it..’
‘Set mostly in Florence, you will wander the streets with James as he tries to track down the murderer of his wife.’
‘Intricate, rich in setting and details….’
‘London and Florence were handled very well to add richness to the novel, alongside the author’s obvious love and knowledge of the art world’

‘I was attracted by the fragile serenity of the image on the front cover.’
‘I enjoyed the setting in Italy and I liked the way the murder mystery linked around the main topic.’
‘I really liked the main character, James Blake and his fearless pursuit of the truth.’
‘I loved the inclusion of a more modern evil …. along with the search for lost classic art and the romantic tale of James Blake, who loved his wife very much…’
‘Take great art of the Italian Renaissence, throw in a 21st century crime family reminiscent of the Borgias, a trace of darkness, a lot of murder and you have a good read for a rainy day….’
‘Mystery and the arts – a great combo. The art world depiction was fascinating…. Made me want to visit the Louvre again.’

L ydia Kalila, the Princess Royal of Mishnah, is forced into marriage with the son of her country’s mortal enemy for the sole purpose of producing an heir. Duty comes before personal choice for a princess especially when her country has been at war for more than a thousand years. Lydia’s pregnancy removes her brother and new husband from their respective lines of succession placing her yet unborn infant at the head of the both queues. No one is happy about this, especially Lydia who dies during childbirth from wounds caused by the talon-like toenails of her very strange newborn son.
Grief stricken at the loss of his daughter, the Mishnese King hastily sends Senya, his infant grandson off to a decrepit inner city orphanage with the intent to retrieve him much later when things got sorted out. At the orphanage, Senya is protected by the invalid Sister Meri who instantly falls in love with the little fellow. She’s not bothered at all by his strange telekinetic and telepathic powers, flickering pupil-less silver eyes or wicked clawed toenails. The House Father takes a shine to the lad too and when Senya is six years old, he is summoned to the Father’s chamber. The Father ends up in flames forcing Meri and Senya out into a snow storm running for their lives.
Thus begins the tale of Senya, a prince created to be king of a planet but then tossed aside until his twelfth birthday when Lt. Taner, a Royal Guard detective is sent to retrieve him. It is unclear to all whether Senya is the product of something good or something evil but in either case, it is very apparent that he is something more than just Lydia Kalila’s son.

Spiritual Anorexia: How Contemporary Worship Is Starving the Church by Doug Erlandson
Genre(s): Christian Books & Bibles, Worship & Devotion, Rites & Ceremonies, Arts & Photography, Music, Musical Genres, Religious & Sacred Music, Christian, Religion & Spirituality, Christianity, Clergy, Worship
I n Spiritual Anorexia: How Contemporary Worship Is Starving the Church, Dr. Doug Erlandson presents a balanced but devastating critique of the contemporary-style worship model that the modern church has adopted and shows how this type of worship deprives Christians of the feast that true corporate worship should be
Drawing from personal experience and extensive research into the history of Christian worship, Dr. Erlandson analyzes the motivations for this type of worship and assesses its strengths and weaknesses. He argues that corporate worship should be a reverential dramatic presentation of the Gospel, with the theme of the redemption of God’s people and the rejuvenation and restoration of creation.
Historically, Christian worship has included certain distinctive elements that help make this presentation. These include the call to worship, the recitation of creeds, readings from each of the major divisions of Scripture, prayers, confession of sin and absolution, Christ-centered preaching, the Lord’s Supper, and the exhortation and benediction. By use of concrete examples Erlandson shows how contemporary-style worship either eliminates these entirely or includes them in a truncated fashion; thus, the elements that made traditional worship a true feast have disappeared. In their place the church has substituted slick musical performances and therapy-style preaching that blurs the central message of the Gospel.
Erlandson examines contemporary praise choruses that have replaced the theologically-rich hymns, demonstrating that the problem with the lyrics is not so much bad theology but lack of meaningful content. The music is often hard for the congregation to follow, having been written for well-trained musicians and not for congregational use. The greatest problem arises from treating the music as a performance by the worship team rather than as congregational worship.
Spiritual Anorexia also contrasts the historical role of preaching as the proclamation of the Gospel with various contemporary models (e.g., the moralistic, therapeutic, and teaching models) and shows how these models deprive the congregation of spiritual nourishment.
A chapter of particular interest is the one on physical symbolism, which argues that by doing away with symbols such as the cross and the pulpit the contemporary church has substituted the sterility of the modern auditorium for the rich symbolism of the historical church building.
The final chapter of Spiritual Anorexia examines the justifications typically given for contemporary-style worship, shows why they are unpersuasive, and argues that whatever value it might have is far outweighed by the spiritual starvation that results.
Throughout, Dr. Erlandson challenges the church to worship with the excellence of which it is capable so that it will truly offer its worship to the glory of God and will experience the feast that corporate worship should be.

N amed one of the Best Fiction Books of 2011 by Kirkus Reviews, The Hum and the Shiver by Alex Bledsoe is an enchanting tale of music and magic older than the hills. . . .
No one knows where the Tufa came from, or how they ended up in the Smoky Mountains of East Tennessee. Enigmatic and suspicious of outsiders, the Tufa live quiet lives in the hills and valleys of Cloud County. While their origins may be a mystery, there are hints of their true nature buried in the songs they have passed down for generations.
Bronwyn Hyatt, a pure-blood Tufa, has always insisting on doing things her own way, regardless of the consequences. Even though Tufa rarely leave Cloud County, she enlisted in the Army to escape the pressures of Tufa life–her family, her obligations as a First Daughter, and her dangerous ex-boyfriend. But after barely surviving a devastating ambush that killed most of her fellow soldiers, Private Hyatt returns to Cloud County wounded in body and in spirit. But danger lurks in the mountains and hollows of her childhood home. Cryptic omens warn of impending tragedy, and a restless “haint” lurks nearby, waiting to reveal Bronwyn’s darkest secrets. Worst of all, Bronwyn has lost touch with the music that was once a vital part of her identity.
Now Bronwyn finds the greatest battle to be right here at home, where her obligations struggle with her need for freedom, and if she makes the wrong choice, the consequences could be deadly for all the Tufa. . . .

Foxblood: A Brush with the Moon is a 75,000 word Young / New Adult novel, the first in the series, and it contains scenes not suitable for under 14′s.
(Previously published as Foxblood:The Chase)
Reviews:
Foxblood begins with rather normal action of two young people conversing on the phone but as soon as the new accomodation is mentioned our antennae start to twitch (just as the author intended!) The prose is competently structured to move the story along and the characterisation is credible and three dimensional. The differing aspects of supernatural, extraordinary powers, darkness, menace and humour are blended in an optimum mix to make this an entertaining read. Robert Davidson.
This is young adult fantasy at its best! The pace put me straight into the story and I was engrossed.
Very convincing dialogue, not forced or contrived, good credible supporting characters and an impressive build up.
Jane
Your brilliant fantasy grabbed me and kept me riveted. Credible characters with emotional depth. Crisp dialogue. confident narrative. Vital writing. I love this story.

I n Fallujah, during a particularly difficult time in the Iraq War, a group of Marines are deployed on a tour that will bring them closer together, while threatening to tear them apart. The Delta Company Outlaws are a group of Light Armored Reconnaissance Marines deployed in 2004 to one of the most hostile war zones in the world. Through the memoirs of one Marine, this touching story encapsulates the drama surrounding everyday life during the Iraq War. With a bond formed through blood, sweat, and tears, a group of unfamiliar Marines will come together stronger than family.
Memoirs of an Outlaw: Life in the Sandbox is a dramatic new take on the Iraq War that focuses more on the personal aspects of war rather than exclusively on combat. With a touching approach to the camaraderie, daily life, and devastating losses, this enlightening memoir by Robert M. Tanner delves into the brotherhood that’s formed throughout a deployment while documenting the combat experiences and daily life of a Marine. Using personal experiences, this engaging story hooks readers with drama, action, and honesty while painting an illuminating picture of both the funny and tragic sides of war.
Inspired by a bond that’s stronger than blood, Memoirs of an Outlaw began as a therapeutic way to document wartime experiences and eventually led to a full-fledged memoir. Deciding to focus on the daily life and camaraderie of war, the story captures the tension, drama, and bonding that comes with combat and living in a hostile environment far away from home. By focusing on the humanistic side of the armed forces, Memoirs of an Outlaw perfectly captures a unique moment in time during an extraordinarily challenging part of the war.

The Year THEY Tried to Kill Me: Surviving a surgical internship…even if the patients don’t by Salvatore Iaquinta
Genre(s): Biographies & Memoirs, Professionals & Academics, Medical, Humor & Entertainment, Humor, Doctors & Medicine
“ The only people who think you are a doctor are you and your mom.”
Not exactly the warm welcome I hoped for. But I was just a naive Wisconsin boy, fresh out of medical school and new to Oakland, California. I chose Highland Hospital for my surgical internship: an entire year filled with sick patients, brutal work hours, more brutal staff surgeons, and flawed attempts to maintain a long-distance relationship. Yet, somehow, it’s a work of nonfictional comedy.
I take on many roles throughout the story. I’m a kid who still plays Tetris, a guy who can’t commit to his girlfriend, an untrained doctor who finds himself cutting open people’s skulls, and a fish out of water who is called to the ER to drain the blood from a cocaine-engorged penis.
But this adventure isn’t just crazy hospital anecdotes or what it takes to become a surgeon. It’s a coming of age tale about learning what it means to be a caregiver. Sure, I worked 40 hours without sleep, but that is only one of the ways They tried to kill me. Their real evil was crushing the enthusiasm and compassion of their trainees. I struggled to remain a “normal” human while joining a fraternity of holier-than-thou surgeons, and nothing grounded me more than trying to cope with the illnesses within my own family.
If this book proves anything, it’s that “Laughter is the best medicine, but surgery is a close second.”
Enjoy.

REVIEWS
Laremy crushes it as he goes behind the scenes of film criticism and gives some of his best and worst experiences working as a film critic, the pros and cons of going into work full time as a critic, and breaks down exactly why criticism of films is warranted at all. It’s funny and smart and fairly quick read. Highly recommended. – The Cradleman (Amazon Verified Purchase)

It is 1984, the year of the Los Angeles Olympics, and Merle sees herself as a latter-day Aphrodite, goddess of love. She plans to remain young for however long it takes for her to ascend a pantheon of Hollywood idols and be worshipped as a goddess.

However, things are about to become interesting. Seeing him over the next few weeks, Ramona engages him in brief conversations, and learns his name is GARY DAVIDSON. From their very first encounter, she has no idea just how much he would affect her world and shatter her preconceived notions. She begins to question her heart and walk with God, facing her hurts and disappointments.
They say pride comes before a fall… so, watch out! One afternoon spent in an abandoned lot with a reverend and homeless people compel her to reevaluate the Christian values she previously prided herself on having. Unsung Giant by Jennifer Pendon
Genre(s): Literature & Fiction, Science Fiction & Fantasy, Fantasy, Epic, World Literature, Mythology
S ince dawn of humankind’s awareness, we have recorded history in the form of drawings and writings, developing habits of storytelling to express what we see. Though what man sees and how he interprets are not always the same.
Loki, Asgardian god of Norse mythology, known as the God of Mischief and Trickery, is victim of historical and literary misconception – one who is pictured as a god who loves to wreak havoc and leave behind strings of misfortune. Unsung Giant is a story to lay all wrong accounts to rest.
Unsung Giant is a tale of an unlikely Asgardian hero, torn between doing what his mischievous
ways demand, and what is expected of him, being the son of a King. Loki, since gianthood, has always been branded as one who does not think for the good of others. The Nine Worlds, including our own, are on the brink of destruction, and only one can bring about salvation.
What would you do, if the power was in your hands? “Loki has both the Mjollnir and the teningur lifsins; two very powerful weapons he could keep and use for his own purposes. The thought of wielding such power is very enticing, even for one who has a strong resolve.”
As the book goes, “Even the All-Father could not help but beam at his younger son’s impulsive nature. Well, Loki would not be Loki if he became insipidly predictable.” Loki and Thor’s filial affiliation are finally put to the test, from birth through to Ragnarok, end of the Nine Worlds, as we discover the true nature of this misunderstood giant.

When learning, it is important to both learn the rules and to follow them. Only THEN can you break them.
It’s vitally important to know the rules before you break them. Once you are comfortable with the way things normally “should” be done, then you can go your own way and start adding your own creativity and personality into the mix.

The Survival of Marvin Baines by Michael Meyer
Genre(s): Literature & Fiction, Humor, Chick-Lit, Domestic Life, Humor & Entertainment, Genre Fiction, Family Life
A N ENDEARING STORY OF WHAT IF, one man’s irreverent yet heartfelt quest to cope with the dysfunctional midlife crisis that has suddenly enveloped him, where romantic fantasy and the reality of marriage collide.
Marvin Baines seemingly has it all: a loving family and a great job. He is about to turn forty, and just like that, the realization hits him–his own mortality is straight up the road. That’s not his only problem. Suddenly he is unable to distinguish fantasy from reality, and his often-quirky decision-making causes his whole life to begin to unravel. All he wants is an escape from his humdrum life. What he gets is something quite unexpected.
EXCERPT
Marvin Baines was not one to be easily fooled. He was reckless, but in a cautious way. He determined to hold his silence on the talking for the time being. He would have to be absolutely certain this time before he went about telling his story.
He took his yellow Mazda wagon out for an early afternoon spin. His windows unrolled all the way; his left elbow leaning out the door; his frame resting luxuriously against his vinyl seat cover; the wind whipping his hair about his head; his eyes focused through his not-so-dark sun-glasses, on the road ahead; his radio turned up loud to the station that played only country classics from the fifties and sixties, blaring out the tunes he loved so; his car churning along at thirty miles an hour in the fifty-five mile an hour zone–Marvin Baines was king. King of himself. Of his feelings. He was happier than can be.
And the sky overhead kind of blue, the breeze rather cool, the music good. Everything was perfect. The way Baines liked it. A relaxing drive in the country was real life. It was living, the way living should be. For Baines. Just Baines, his car, and his music–and of course the breeze, and the lovely landscape. That’s all he needed to be really content in the moment.
The singer on the radio was telling Baines about how he, a lonely man, had stepped into a bar and had met a delectable little woman, whom he had shared a drink and a dance with; but then, just as he and the woman were about to leave the bar together, the man had suddenly looked down at his hand and he had seen the wedding band on his finger.
A classic! thought Marvin Baines. A real classic!

The Eden Project: Humanity’s Last Chance by DP Fitzsimons
Genre(s): Action & Adventure, Nonfiction, Science Fiction & Fantasy, Science Fiction, Series
T here was only one rule: NEVER LEAVE THE DOME.
Inside the dome, 117 tube-born kids lived free of contamination. Trained since birth, they were almost ready to launch their ships and leave the dying planet behind. They were humanity’s final hope to avoid extinction. Their mission would be to explore the farthest reaches of the galaxy seeking out a habitable world free of the C-1 virus.
They tried not to think of conditions outside the dome where the virus had driven the last of the uninfected into the ground, into dark bunkers where they waited to be rooted out by cannibalistic hordes. Streets had become boneyards. Weeds grew inside long-forgotten government buildings.
Fifteen-year-old Genevieve Fifthborn knew all this, she was fully aware that the world was coming to an end, but on the island of The Eden Project she had much bigger problems, boy problems. Only her first love might risk far more than a broken heart, it just might bring about the end of our species.

T his powerfully moving novel traces a young woman’s journey of self-discovery as she travels from Rhode Island to reunite with her father in the Florida Keys. Unforgettable, dramatic and uplifting it will stay with you long after the last page is turned and is especially dedicated by the author to his daughters.
Nikki Kimble was brought up by her mother in the lap of luxury, with every material thing she could ever want, except for the presence and love of her father Jake, a former bestselling author who disappeared from her life when she was three years old. All she has are fleeting memories and a romantic notion of him gleaned from the central character in his novels.
On the death of her mother, Nikki feels impelled to search for Jake, hoping to ease her sense of loss and to reconnect with a missing part of herself. When she finds him aboard a battered yacht in the Florida Keys her illusions are shattered and both their worlds start to unravel.
As father and daughter face-off in an emotionally charged atmosphere – on a leaking yacht off the Dry Tortugas adrift in the middle of a massive storm – their fury, sadness and sense of loss is countered by that mysterious and precious bond that exists between a father and a daughter, and the deep-seated human need for love, belonging and new beginnings.
This dramatic and inspirational novel touches the part of us that’s experienced the heartache of love, loss and betrayal. It also reminds us of the joy and exuberance that bubbles up within us when the strength and power of the human spirit allows us to overcome seemingly impossible obstacles that life places in our way.
“…AFN Clarke captures a father and daughter reconciliation in a poignant, gripping and heartfelt way. It’s a story which mirrors the journey many of us take in life … As a reader I felt both challenged and uplifted by this book… I highly recommend it.” 5 Stars, Roma Gaster.
AFN Clarke is the bestselling author of CONTACT (nonfiction) and various works of fiction: An Unquiet American, Dry Tortugas, The Book of Baker series (Dreams from the Death Age; Armageddon; Genesis Revisited) and Collisions.

“ …both [The Obsession and Gone Girl] are pacy, gripping narratives about love grown monstrous and out of control…fascinating portraits of gender rancour, or the amazing ability men and women have to love and loathe each other with intensity.”–Victoria Best (aka Litlove), Tales from the Reading Room
“…not for the literary faint of heart…this is a powerful engaging story, one that followers of this particular genre would most likely enjoy.”–Charlene Mabie-Gamble, Literary R&R
“…very exciting. I was hooked by the time I finished the first chapter. It is very well written, fast moving and suspenseful.”–Barbara Juhl, Library Thing
The Obsession, the first entry in the Truth Beauty Trilogy, is a vibrant novel of suspense and murder, by turns intriguing and surprising, as three smart, driven people match wits with their lives at stake. When Stan, an American grad student falls for Lina, a lovely Italian scholar, his unrequited passion turns perverse. When he follows her from a mid-west college town to Bologna’s ancient streets, they are joined by John, Lina’s American lover and Stan’s mentor. Their love-lust triangle
re-ignites, and they flee and chase down the storied Italian boot to a shocking conclusion on volcanic Mt. Etna.
“I loved this novel and can’t wait to read the next in the trilogy. Fascinating, complex characters, a story full of surprising twists and a genuinely shocking ending. First rate suspense.”–Kate, Amazon Reviewer
“It was a good mystery and I never did guess how the ending would be played out, and that is pretty extraordinary. I am not often that much in the dark about how a book would be wound up by the author.”–Victoria Chance, Amazon Reviewer
If you’re looking for a dark, edgy saga that will keep you guessing, pick up The Obsession. Then try the trilogy’s Book 2, The Disappearance. With complex characters and shocking twists, it’s another compelling read with a powerful payoff.

B rief Synopsis
CONNECTED is a speculative fiction thriller with touches of science and philosophy, which reached No.1 in Amazon UK’s Bestseller lists for both Thrillers and Science Fiction within 5 days of release.
Beginning with the funeral of a renowned classical violinist in a sleepy rural hamlet in the Lake District, a former theoretical physicist tries to make sense of his brother’s suicide. Across the country, a university student, enjoying the unexpected attentions of an enigmatic seductress, is disturbed when his best friend falls to his death from the thirteenth floor of a neighbouring campus tower block.
As each tries to unravel the mystery behind the apparent suicides, they are drawn into an obsessive search for a computer-generated fractal video sequence, with startling effects on human consciousness, and which might just pave the way for discovery of the ultimate Theory of Everything.
However, they are not the only ones to have seen the potential of this mind-altering video, and soon find themselves in a desperate race against time with gangsters from the shadowy worlds of sex, drugs, cyber-crime, and massively multi-player on-line gaming.
Science Content
Although, as the reviews testify, CONNECTED has been enjoyed by many with no background in computer science, Mandelbrot Fractal geometry, string theory, quantum physics or brain science, those with some interest or knowledge in these areas seem to have particularly enjoyed the book.
One reason for this appears to be that most of these references are actually based on fact. Of course, some readers have preferred to skim these sections, and claim that this did not detract from the story. Others have appreciated the scientific detail and fidelity, and some have even thanked the author for explaining such things in a way that enabled them to learn something new.
Philosophy, Science and Religion
Although CONNECTED is mostly enjoyed as a fast-paced mystery thriller, it is also, to a limited extent, about the inevitable conflict between science and religion. The two main male protagonists happen to be atheist, and some of the dialogue explores the different thoughts and attitudes concerning some of life’s deeper questions. These include the origins of the universe, the nature of consciousness, and whether there could be life after death. Again these philosophical references to faith and atheism are few, and mostly quite short, but all are crucial to the story.
Setting and slang
CONNECTED is a contemporary novel, set entirely in England. As the story unfolds through two converging plot threads, the action switches between a fictitious village in the Lake District, the University of Essex in Colchester (an old Roman town about 60 miles north-east of London), Bracknell (a newer suburban town some 40 miles west of London), and North London.
Consequently, there is some British slang and occasional use of bad language (e.g. a few instances of the F-word etc.) in keeping with the age and background of the characters.
Why Connected?
Years ago, while the author was at university, a fellow student had a breakdown and was admitted to the local psychiatric hospital. A few, who knew him well, went to visit and reported that he’d subsequently lost the plot and was gabbling incomprehensibly of having found the answer to life, the universe and everything.
While most people seemed consumed with sadness and pity at this, the author’s first thought was, “What if he really had discovered some universal truth?” Although never seriously believing that he had, it was on that day that the seed of an idea lodged in his young brain – a seed that years later would germinate into the drafting of the first three chapters of CONNECTED from a cabin in the French Alps.
