Cars and Stars: Diary of a Beverly Hills Parking Valet by Bruce Luchsinger
Genre(s): Humor & Entertainment, Humor, Business & Professional, Comedy
W elcome to the world famous Beverly Garden Hotel — A dazzling Beverly Hills oasis where Hollywood royalty mixes with actual royalty, millionaires take a backseat to billionaires, and the net worth of the cars in its parking lot could comfortably finance a small nation.
There are ten things that will get a parking valet at the Beverly Garden fired on the spot. Over the last 14 hours, Luke Brookington has done five of them.
Ripped from the pages of Luke’s diary, CARS AND STARS: DIARY OF A BEVERLY HILLS PARKING VALET tells a fun and lively tale that spans ten years — from Luke’s first day on the job in 2000 to Oscar Weekend 2010 and the proverbial shift from hell — where one shaky decision leads to many shaky decisions over the course of a wild night fueled by sex, drugs, and large hamburgers.
It’s the story of a man trapped in paradise — of transcendental love found and lost — and of Luke’s golden opportunity to change all of that — if he’ll simply reach for the magic.
CARS AND STARS is a humorous novel set in the celebrity-laden land of sun, fun, mansions, and money. And like books such as HEADS IN BEDS and WAITER RANT, the spot-on insights into the world of high-end service come from a true industry insider. A seventeen-year veteran of 5 Star hotels in Beverly Hills and Bel Air, Bruce Luchsinger parked roughly a quarter of a million cars — many with price tags well north of six figures — before putting pen to paper.

How much would a father sacrifice for his child?
Nineteen years ago, Indiana police found the body of a young girl, burned beyond recognition and buried in the woods. They arrested George Calhoun for murdering his daughter, and his wife testified against him at the trial. The jury convicted him. Now his appeals have been exhausted, and his execution is just a few weeks away.
George said he didn’t do it. That the body isn’t his little Angelina. But that’s all he’s ever said – no other defense, no other explanation.
Dani Trumball, an attorney for the Help Innocent Prisoners Project, wants to believe him. After all, there was no forensic evidence that the body in the woods was George’s daughter. But if the girl isn’t Angelina, then who is it? And what happened to the Calhouns’ missing daughter?
For nineteen years, George Calhoun has stayed silent. But that’s about to change, and the story he tells Dani–if it’s true–changes everything.

The Maze – The Lost Labyrinth (Suspense Thriller) by Jason Brannon
Genre(s): Christian Books & Bibles, Literature & Fiction, Science Fiction & Fantasy, Religion & Spirituality, Fiction, Mystery, Religious Fiction, Christianity, Christian Fiction, Fantasy, Suspense
A near death experience transports Jamie Burroughs into The Maze, a realm built by angels and demons and filled with traps and riddles for those haunted by their mistakes.
For Jamie, The Maze becomes a terrifying journey through a world of darkness where his soul and the lives of those he loves hangs in the balance. With his family in danger and his soul in peril, Jamie is forced to reevaluate the kind of man he truly is as he struggles to escape The Maze before it’s too late.
Praise for The Maze
“Jason Brannon shows us a place of reckoning and judgments, of creatures that wait to ensnare us. The Maze is a novel of damnation and deliverance, of corridors fortified with death and spirituality. I found a bit of myself in The Maze.” ~ Steven Lloyd, author of The Wooden Box
“From his style, you’d think Jason Brannon was the dark double of Ray Bradbury. He cares more about character and realism than most writers I’ve read and his plots flow like well-orchestrated music. Indeed, Brannon’s writing has a classical feel, reminiscent of the best traditional work in the genre, even when he’s going for gut-wrenching terror and torture in-extremis.” ~ Michael Arnzen, International Horror Guild Award winning author of Grave Markings (Dell Abyss)
“Warning! The Maze may get inside your head — and stay there.” ~ Harry Shannon, author of Night of the Beast
“Brannon’s work reminds me of the glory days of The Twilight Zone, when it was in black and white and carried bylines like Beaumont and Matheson. Often surreal, sometimes disturbing and sometimes enlightening, there’s real substance in his tales that few of his contemporaries can match.” ~ Mike Oliveri, Bram Stoker Award Winning Author of Deadliest of the Species
“It is a rare treat to find a modern writer whose work is truly a mirror of the darkest corners of the world we all share. Every one of his haunting stories is infused with clear ideas and startling notions submerged in a straightforward and engaging prose. His visions linger with you long after the book has been closed.” ~ Stephen Susco, Screenwriter (The Grudge, The Grudge 2, Pulse, Red)

Take Back Tomorrow by Richard Levesque
Genre(s): Literature & Fiction, Science Fiction & Fantasy, Science Fiction, Time Travel
“ Raymond Chandler meets Robert Heinlein in this fun and inventive crossover SF novel from Richard Levesque.”–J. Orr, Amazon Reviews
What if all you had to do to make your dreams come true was violate the laws of the universe?
That’s not just a philosophical question Eddie Royce has to answer. It’s a choice he has to make when the most famous science fiction writer of the 1930s goes missing and his unscrupulous publisher becomes convinced that Eddie knows all of the older writer’s secrets–not just the secret of where he’s gone, but the secret of how he’s traveled in time.
Until now, Eddie’s fooled himself into thinking he’s got the system figured out, “borrowing” plots from Shakespeare and rewriting them as space operas to make a name for himself in the pulps. But when he finds out that Chester Blackwood–his idol and inspiration–has been cheating the system in ways Eddie could never have dreamed of, the hack science fiction writer finds himself in the middle of a plot that his pulp readers would never have imagined.
Now he has to do all he can to save himself–and Blackwood’s beautiful daughter–from the powerful figures who all want Blackwood’s secret. And violating the laws of the universe might just be the least of Eddie’s problems.
“The pace of the story is quick, and the time transitions are handled well. Overall, this is a good novel, one that even readers with little interest in sci-fi might enjoy.” — Publishers Weekly.*
“Hardboiled 30′s crime thriller meets time-traveling pulp science-fiction for an original fast paced, page turner.”–S. Sager, Amazon Reviews
“It has a distinctly ‘noir’ flavor as well as an old school science fiction feel. It is fast paced and clever.”–C. Pellitteri, Amazon Reviews
“Apart from stopping to have something to eat I haven’t been able to tear myself away from this until I had finished it. This is good old time story telling that is well written, and definitely well worth reading.”–M. Bowden, Amazon UK Hall of Fame Reviewer
Richard Levesque writes novels and short stories by night and is an English professor by day. He mostly writes science fiction and paranormal fantasy blended with noir-style mystery. He is currently working on his next novel.

The Life and Prayers of Saint Patrick by Wyatt North
Genre(s): Biographies & Memoirs, Leaders & Notable People, Religious, Christian Books & Bibles, Catholicism, Religion & Spirituality, Christianity
O ne part biography, one part prayer book, The Life and Prayers of Saint Patrick is an essential for any Christian.
The Saint Patrick of his own writings and the early records of his life are not known to many. While Saint Patrick also represents shamrocks, Irish pride, and even the occasional green beer there is much of his life that is often forgotten. For instance, the original color associated with Saint Patrick’s Day was blue, and although Saint Patrick dedicated his life to spreading Christianity in Ireland, he might not have celebrated the nation, as we do on his feast day today, in his own lifetime. Ireland, for Patrick, was in many ways bittersweet.
On the other hand, it was also the nation of his spiritual awakening, which is probably a large part of why Patrick decided to make the conversion of Ireland his calling. In the English-speaking world, few saints are as well known, yet so misunderstood, as Saint Patrick. The saint himself, as he was in life, sometimes gets lost in his holiday. The seekers who want to know the real Patrick have to dig much deeper, but they will also find Patrick a more complex and rewarding acquaintance.
All books in The Life and Prayers series come complete with a Touch-or-Click Table of Contents, divided by each section.

T HE BUSHWHACKERS
Heck Martin’s motto was simple. If they left him alone, he would leave them alone.
Heck Martin was not pro-Union, like his father and brother. He had joined up with Quantrill to harass the bluebellies and other Union feds that thought they could tell others what they should be doing. But after the massacre at Lawrence, Kansas, he wanted nothing to do with Quantrill and his gang.
Thirteen other hard-bitten veterans had followed him, had joined with him, but soon grew to hate him even more than they hated Quantrill.
Then suddenly, the war is over, and Heck knows that most of his “men” would be out to kill him. But they all feared him. He was the fastest with a gun they had ever seen. Also, Heck had warned them, when he left for home, that if anyone followed him or tried to cause him or his family harm, he would kill them on sight.
Cotton Petty and the other bushwhackers had not left him alone. They had tried to kill him, and failing that, had killed two members of his family. For that he would hound them to the ends of the earth, if need be. From now on, until he was dead or they were all dead, there would be war between them.
Follow Heck Martin as he tracks the deadly bushwhackers, across the 1865 wild west landscape of Missouri, Texas, New Mexico and Arizona. Heck’s tracking skills are put to the test in a deadly game of cat and mouse, sprinkled with Comanches, wild west women, mountain men and plenty of gunfights, horses and cold blooded killers. He also has to avoid the bluebellies who are hunting him, as well as a bounty put on his head by Quantrill, for what Heck had done during the war.

Her mother, Babs, is a stiletto-wearing Zsa Zsa Gabor type who works as an activities hostess on a Caribbean cruise line … and if you guessed there’s some tension there, you’d be right. The Last Madam: A Life in the New Orleans Underworld by Christine Wiltz
Genre(s): Biographies & Memoirs, Specific Groups, Crime & Criminals, History, Americas, United States, State & Local, Criminals, South
N orma Wallace grew up fast in the rough neighborhoods of New Orleans. In 1916, as an ambitious fifteen-year-old, she went to work as a street-walker in the French Quarter, but by 1920 was madam of what became one of the city’s most lavish brothels, an establishment frequented by politicians, movie stars, gangsters, and even the notoriously corrupt police force. For decades Norma flourished, a smart, glamorous, powerful woman whose scandalous life made front-page headlines. Her lovers ran the gamut from a bootlegger who shot her during a fight, to a famed bandleader, to the boy next door, thirty-nine years her junior, who became her fifth husband.
Norma knew all of the Crescent City’s dirty little secrets and used them to protect her own interests – she never got so much as a traffic ticket – until the early 1960s, when District Attorney Jim Garrison decided to clean up vice and corruption. After a jail stay, she went legitimate as successfully as she had gone criminal, with a lucrative restaurant business. To the end Norma maintained her independence, and surrendered only to an irrational, obsessive love, which ultimately led to her violent death.
In The Last Madam, author Christine Wiltz combines original research with Wallace’s personal memoirs to bring to life an era in New Orleans history rife with charm and decadence, and to reveal the colorful woman who reigned as its underworld queen.

Graves’ End: A Magical Thriller by Sean Patrick Traver
Genre(s): Literature & Fiction, Science Fiction & Fantasy, Fantasy, Contemporary, Magic & Wizards, World Literature, Mythology
A modern-day witch helps an undead detective solve the mystery of his own resurrection in this magical thriller with a touch of classic LA noir!
Los Angeles PI Dexter Graves was pretty sure his life ended back in 1950, after a mysterious femme fatale shot him through the head. When Graves involuntarily rises from his grave sixty years later, he finds himself drawn to freelance sorceress Lia Flores, who introduces him to an underworld he never could’ve imagined. Lia sets out to discover the meaning behind Graves’ unexpected intrusion into her enchanted life, but neither the witchgirl nor the skeletal detective has any idea they’re being set up by an old-school player on the LA scene: mobster/monster Mickey Hardface, also known as Mictlantecuhtli, the ambitious king of the Aztec realm of the dead.
Funny and fast-paced, this genre-bending love letter to the City of Angels blends surreal magical fantasy with the narrative drive of a taut crime story. Epic in scope and rooted in California history, GRAVES’ END adds a new chapter to the mythology of the post-Halloween holiday known as el Dia de los Muertos–the Day of the Dead.

B EST OF 2012!
–Rabid Readers Reviews, rabidreaders.com
“Packed with detail and plot, Abrahams’ SEDITION reminded me of some of John Le Carre’s work. Maybe RUSSIA HOUSE or TINKER, TAILOR, SOLDIER, SPY.”
–International Bestselling Author Marc Cameron
“With echoes of heavyweights like John Grisham, Abrahams rolls out the plot with precision and attention to detail giving us believable characters unlike so many of the other post 9/11 cookie cutter thrillers that clog the genre.”
–December 2012 THRILLER OF THE MONTH, e-thriller.com
“In a rising sea of political conspiracy novels, Abrahams’ SEDITION stands out as one of best I’ve read in several years.”
–Steven Konkoly, Bestselling author of The Jakarta Pandemic and the Black Flagged series
The President of The United States is dead. There is no Vice President to take his place.
As the nation slips into a constitutional crisis, a small group of disenfranchised neo-patriots conspire to violently seize power.
They have the will. They already have someone on the inside. And they have the explosives.
Standing in their way is a woman who listens to conversations not meant for her to hear. She reads mail not intended for her to see. She knows their intention. But can she stop them in time?
SEDITION is a smart, fast-paced, modern day political novel woven in reality and based on the 1820 British plot, The Cato Street Conspiracy.
It navigates the thin line between good versus evil and patriot versus traitor, proving there’s always a reason behind treason.
So if you like the realism and historical context of a Dan Brown thriller, mixed with research of a Tom Clancy novel…you’ll love SEDITION.

Living with Schizophrenia by Neel Burton
Genre(s): Health Fitness & Dieting, Mental Health, Self-Help, Professional & Technical, Medical eBooks
T his prize-winning book provides schizophrenia sufferers and their carers with a source of information about the illness that is accessible, reliable, and comprehensive. By teaching you about the condition, ‘Living with Schizophrenia’ aims to alleviate any feelings of fear and isolation that you may have, and provide you with a realistic sense of hope and optimism. Simple and practical advice about day-to-day management enables you to take greater control over the illness, make the most of the services that are available to you, and ultimately improve your chances of once again leading a healthy, productive, and fulfilling life.
Schizophrenia is isolating and frightening for the people who have it and also for their families. This is a very gentle, straightforward book tackling a really difficult subject crying out for unbiased, compassionate but honest information. We particularly liked the advice on the psycho-social and legal aspects of mental health, which are often ignored. –Judges, MJA Open Book Awards
Though information on schizophrenia is freely available in the public domain, much of it is hard to find, unreliable, inconsistent, and, because of the uncontrolled nature of the internet, unnecessarily disheartening. Much of what is easily accessible is aimed at scientists and healthcare professionals rather than at schizophrenia sufferers and their carers, for whose benefit this book has been specially prepared. By leading them to a better understanding of the illness and its treatments, from medication to psychological and other therapies, and by guiding them through their day-to-day battles, it should serve as a giant first step on their journey to recovery. –Marjorie Wallace, Chief Executive, SANE
To sum up, a lot of information is contained in this concise book, which makes it a valuable reference, particularly for people confronted with a shocking diagnosis of schizophrenia for the first time. –The British Journal of Psychiatry
Dr Neel Burton is a psychiatrist who practices and teaches in Oxford, England. He regularly blogs for Psychology Today in the USA, and is the recipient of the Society of Authors’ Richard Asher Prize, the British Medical Association’s Young Authors Award, and the Medical Journalists’ Association Open Book Award. Spiritual Anorexia: How Contemporary Worship Is Starving the Church by Doug Erlandson
Genre(s): Christian Books & Bibles, Worship & Devotion, Rites & Ceremonies, Arts & Photography, Music, Musical Genres, Religious & Sacred Music, Christian, Religion & Spirituality, Christianity, Clergy, Worship
I n Spiritual Anorexia: How Contemporary Worship Is Starving the Church, Dr. Doug Erlandson presents a balanced but devastating critique of the contemporary-style worship model that the modern church has adopted and shows how this type of worship deprives Christians of the feast that true corporate worship should be
Drawing from personal experience and extensive research into the history of Christian worship, Dr. Erlandson analyzes the motivations for this type of worship and assesses its strengths and weaknesses. He argues that corporate worship should be a reverential dramatic presentation of the Gospel, with the theme of the redemption of God’s people and the rejuvenation and restoration of creation.
Historically, Christian worship has included certain distinctive elements that help make this presentation. These include the call to worship, the recitation of creeds, readings from each of the major divisions of Scripture, prayers, confession of sin and absolution, Christ-centered preaching, the Lord’s Supper, and the exhortation and benediction. By use of concrete examples Erlandson shows how contemporary-style worship either eliminates these entirely or includes them in a truncated fashion; thus, the elements that made traditional worship a true feast have disappeared. In their place the church has substituted slick musical performances and therapy-style preaching that blurs the central message of the Gospel.
Erlandson examines contemporary praise choruses that have replaced the theologically-rich hymns, demonstrating that the problem with the lyrics is not so much bad theology but lack of meaningful content. The music is often hard for the congregation to follow, having been written for well-trained musicians and not for congregational use. The greatest problem arises from treating the music as a performance by the worship team rather than as congregational worship.
Spiritual Anorexia also contrasts the historical role of preaching as the proclamation of the Gospel with various contemporary models (e.g., the moralistic, therapeutic, and teaching models) and shows how these models deprive the congregation of spiritual nourishment.
A chapter of particular interest is the one on physical symbolism, which argues that by doing away with symbols such as the cross and the pulpit the contemporary church has substituted the sterility of the modern auditorium for the rich symbolism of the historical church building.
The final chapter of Spiritual Anorexia examines the justifications typically given for contemporary-style worship, shows why they are unpersuasive, and argues that whatever value it might have is far outweighed by the spiritual starvation that results.
Throughout, Dr. Erlandson challenges the church to worship with the excellence of which it is capable so that it will truly offer its worship to the glory of God and will experience the feast that corporate worship should be.
