What would you do if you hurt the woman you loved beyond what is in human nature to forgive? That is the problem that Morkel has to overcome.
As the celebrated author, ‘M—, No Time for Love’, Morkel has vowed to never write a love story, or a story with a female protagonist. A staunch bachelor, Morkel is set in his ways; he has vowed to never fall in love. However, during a holiday in Kiev Morkel meets a ‘person of interest’; someone who will change his life forever. “A wonderful read. I laughed and laughed. If you have an interest in France and her history, you will love this book.”
In her fourth travelogue, Susie and her husband take to their bikes to explore the Marne valley, following in the carriage tracks of Marie Antoinette and Louis XVI in their abortive escape attempt from the French revolution.
Susie is not a born cyclist, as she discovers within the first five minutes of a journey that will last three weeks. Neither does she look her best in Lycra cycling gear. While her husband whirls along effortlessly, she frequently grinds to a halt and has to be rescued. But the pair keep pedalling. From the glitz of Versailles to the hilly Champagne vineyards, via a hair-raising ride through Paris.Through quaint provincial towns and sombre World War II battlefields.
Like the bestselling “Best Foot Forward – a 500-mile Walk Through Hidden France”, and “Travels with Tinkerbelle – 6,000 miles Around France in a Mechanical Wreck”, “The Valley of Heaven and Hell – Cycling In The Shadow Of Marie Antoinette” is an enjoyable mixture of travel and history, told in Susie’s characteristically light-hearted and self-depreciating style. One for armchair travellers to enjoy, or a good holiday read – fans of France, fans of travel writing, fans of Bill Bryson and Peter Mayle will love this book.
“As someone who enjoys reading about travel on foot or bicycle I can say its as good as any I’ve read and is a massively entertaining and satisfying read.”
“When it’s funny it’s laugh-out-loud funny, and when it’s sad it is heart-breaking.”
“Susie rides again! Susie has done it again. This is a thoroughly entertaining read combining self deprecating honest comments with lesser known historical tales and anecdotes. I think this is the best so far of those that I have read.”
“This book manages to combine history, humor and the best of travel writing all in one.”
“Best of all is her humour, her description of seeing herself in a mirror after a days cycling was so funny.”

Archeologist David Hyden is hell-bent to disprove his Biblical archeologist father’s religious theories. After his father is found dead at the center of Stonehenge with a strange glowing spiral engraved into his palm, David decides to challenge his father’s theory that Maeshowe–a passage grave ruin in Stenness, Scotland–possesses metaphysical powers. However, the morning after his arrival in Stenness, David wakes to find everyone else in town is dead.
NATO pathologist Brynne Thatcher is trained to recognize the subtle features of subsonic death, a unique forte and her only leg-up in a career dominated by men. Sound is the ideal weapon: an indiscriminate killer that leaves almost no trace upon its victims. She is testing an acoustic cannon in the grasslands a short distance from Stenness. Thatcher is certain her weapon caused the Stenness massacre, but all bets are off when she pinpoints Maeshowe as the source of deadly noise. The ruin erupts with low-frequency sound every 77 hours. Each explosion is larger and deadlier than the last. The only clues to stopping Maeshowe are the spiral petroglyph glowing inside its central chamber and the lone survivor, David.
Investigating the connection between the two glowing spiral symbols, Thatcher and David uncover Brenton’s most bizarre theory: There are four locks and four keys lost throughout antiquity. Any man who finds a matching lock and key will gain one of the powers of the Four Horsemen of Apocalypse (Conqueror, War, Plague, and Death). Displacement of a key awakened the passage grave. Unless the “key” is placed into the petroglyph “lock,” the ruin will kill every living thing.
Finding the key won’t be easy. A clandestine brotherhood known as the Abaddon is sworn to protect the keys. As Maeshowe’s eruption spreads across northern Europe, the leadership of the Abaddon crumbles. A new leader of the dark society seeks to become Conqueror, and a race to the Apocalypse begins.

H ow much sugar can we eat a day?
This is the famous nutritionist Professor Marion Nestle’s advice:
How can we enjoy eating sweets without gaining weight or impairing our health? As a journalist, I’ve asked the famous nutritionist, Professor Marion Nestle, that same question in an interview. In her very interesting book “What to Eat”, she wrote that she loves to eat sweets and that she allows herself to eat 10% from her calorie intake as sugars (4 tablespoons a day). The daily calorie intake of an average person is 1,600- 2,200 calories. That means that everyone can eat a treat that has160-220 calories everyday.
Of course you can eat a little piece of chocolate, but who can? A160 calories piece is too small. As a woman who has to struggle with her sweet tooth, I started to invent treat recipes that were tasty and of sufficient size (for example, a standard-size muffin or two large cookies) and had up to 160 calories.
What’s the secret? How come a regular cake has about 500 calories and my cakes are only 160 calories? It’s as sweet as any regular cake and has regular sugar and no artificial sweeteners. In past years, I’ve explored the field of fat substitutes in cakes. The secret is replacing the one ingredient that contains the most calories in cakes –fats– with tasty and healthy natural substitutes like applesauce, yogurt, and orange juice. Fat has an important role in cakes. It gives texture and moisture. But fat is also why cakes are so fattening. In fact, a cup of sugar has 750 calories while a cup of oil has 1,700 calories! After thousands of attempts in my kitchen, I discovered certain combinations of ingredients that can give the same soft texture and moistness of fat in cakes but at up to twenty times fewer calories. I tested all the recipes on picky eaters, adults, and even children. Most of them could not guess these were low-calorie treats. These are easy-to-prepare recipes so you can eat your daily tasty, healthy treat, but without the calorie penalty.
With the “Naturally Up to 160 Calories. Everyday Delicious Treats!” you can:
* Discover the secrets of and innovative techniques for making delicious, fluffy cakes using natural, healthy ingredients such as applesauce (100 calories/cup), Greek yogurt (183 calories/cup) and orange juice instead of oil and butter (1,700 calories/cup). You can enjoy a good-size sweet treat (the size of a standard muffin, cupcake or two large cookies) of 160 calories max.
* Find a large and varied range of easy, from-scratch recipes for sweet and healthy cakes, cupcakes and cookies, using only natural ingredients, including real sugar, and without any fake ingredients such as artificial sweeteners, egg substitutes or any other dietetic products.
* Make healthy, delicious treats for children. All recipes were sampled on children – they loved the flavors and had no idea they were eating low-calorie treats.
