F inally, here is a book that helps parents guide their student through college from acceptance letter to graduation day. College is one of the most expensive purchases parents make. Yet, only a third of college students will graduate in four years and just 25% of college students have a job lined up at graduation. Why are so many parents and students spending tens of thousands of dollars to get an education, running up huge student loan bills, and students not able to find jobs after graduation? The answer is simple. Neither parents nor students start planning early enough for graduation and that first job. The job search begins the freshman year. This book helps parents to help their students get the most out of college and graduate with the job of their dreams waiting.
Parents will learn:
- How to help your student maximize their college experience while reducing its cost
- How to ensure your student walks across the stage within four years with a diploma and a job
- How to help your student manage his or her spending and finances while in college

Genre(s): Literature & Fiction, Genre Fiction, Horror, Ghosts, Occult, Mystery Thriller & Suspense, Thrillers, Suspense, Science Fiction & Fantasy, Fantasy, Paranormal & Urban
B uried deep in a ravine in the picturesque Smoky Mountains is a very dark secret. Miriam begs David to hand the bag and tooth over to park officials, but he ignores his wife’s pleas and secretly keeps the ‘harmless’ items. The action opens a doorway that had been closed for nearly a hundred years and unleashes hell on earth, or at least hell in the lives of David and Miriam.
Following the brutal murder of his best friend in Denver, and an aborted attack on his oldest son, David desperately seeks to understand why a mysterious teenage girl has chosen to terrorize him and the males closest to him. To prevent further devastation to his family and end the wanton bloodshed, he returns to the enchanted hills of eastern Tennessee, where a terrible truth awaits discovery…one that forces him to face the consequences for the unpaid sins of his ancestors.
Acclaim for Aiden James:
“Aiden James has written a deeply psychological, gripping tale that keeps the readers hooked from page one.”
–Bookfinds review for THE FORGOTTEN EDEN
“Not only is Aiden James a storyteller par excellence, but his material for his story is riveting.”
–Huntress Reviews
“The hook to this excellent suspense thriller is the twists that will keep readers wondering what is going on as nothing is quite what it seems. Adding to the excitement is that the audience will wonder whether the terror is an evil supernatural creature or an amoral human…Aiden James provides a dark thriller that grips fans from the opening.”
–Harriet Klausner, Amazon’s #1 book reviewer for THE FORGOTTEN EDEN
“Aiden James writing style flows very easily and I found that CADES COVE snowballed into a very gripping tale. Clearly the strengths in the piece were as the spirit’s interaction became prevalent with the family… The Indian lore and ceremonies and the flashbacks to Allie Mae’s (earthly) demise were very powerful. I think those aspects separated the work from what we’ve seen before in horror and ghost tales.”
–Evelyn Klebert, author of A GHOST OF A CHANCE and DRAGONFLIES
“Aiden James is insanely talented!”
–J.R. Rain, author of MOON DANCE and THE BODY DEPARTED

Calling Dr. Einstein (The Adventures of Mr. Tompkins) by Igor Gamow
Genre(s): Comics & Graphic Novels, Graphic Novels, Education & Reference, Science & Math, Science for Kids, Literary, Education
I n this wildly entertaining and informative comic book, our hero, Mr. Tompkins meets Albert Einstein and explores such mysteries as gravity and the speed of light. Here’s a chance to learn something and have fun while you’re at it.
“The Adventures of Mr. Tompkins” is based on the popular “Mr. Tompkins” book series by the legendary scientist and author, George Gamow. Gamow’ s breadth of knowledge was astounding. He originated the Big Bang theory of the Universe, did groundbreaking work on radioactivity and helped decipher the genetic code. Now, renowned inventor and scientist, R. Igor Gamow has teamed up with talented comic book illustrator, Scorpio Steele, to bring Mr. Tompkins to life in a comic book series.
Along with Isaac Asimov, Gamow is regarded as one of the greatest science popularizers of all time. He wrote books on how the atom works; radioactivity; electromagnetism; the nature of light; and how scientists understand space, time, and motion. However, he’s best known for his classic series of books featuring the lovable character, Mr. Tompkins.
“The idea of this comic book is brilliant. Daunting topics, such as the theory of relativity, nuclear fission, and radioactivity, are presented here in a form that speaks to and entertains a very general audience. The author even uses analogies that help readers relate to very abstract concepts”.
– Catherine Thureson, Clarion Book Reviews
“By his ingenuity and narrative skills, Gamow is able to transform the puzzling and obscure mysteries of physics into magical and enthralling stories. It was Mr. Tompkins who made the new physics vivid and real for me as a child and I am sure that he will continue to do the same for a great many others.”
– Roger Penrose, winner of the Albert Einstein Medal

The Contract of Love by José Chaves
Genre(s): Biographies & Memoirs, Ethnic & National, Self-Help, Health Fitness & Dieting, Recovery, Drug Dependency
A birthday party is one of the few occasions when our father might come to visit, but you can’t count on it. “Guess what kids?” Mom says, trying to cheer my sister up as she dishes up dark brown squares of cake laced with shreds of carrot that look like little worms: “This cake contains absolutely no refined sugar. Instead, I used frozen orange juice concentrate!”
This is when we hear the sound of Latin music coming up the street like an ice cream truck. My sister’s eyes light up as she yells, “Papoo!” and runs out the door. I see our father’s Volvo pulling into the gravel driveway, his tires making the sound of popcorn popping. He’s pulling some kind of silver trailer with a shaggy grey pony in it that looks wild-eyed and is trying to escape.
“Oh Christ,” Grandpa Joe says, getting up to investigate. “What the hell’s he done now?”

Growing up with a Colombian father for whom magical realism was a way of life made ordinary reality feel like an immigrant experience for author Jose Chaves, who was born in the U.S. but–as his father would insist–”made in Colombia!”
That experience comes alive like a movie on the page in The Contract of Love, a memoir about family that is both hilarious and heartbreaking. Chaves’ straightforward style turns the familiar exotic and makes the unfamiliar feel like home as he takes readers on a cultural journey from small-town, muscle-car America to the Chaves family farm in Colombia, where the cow is named Lyndon Johnson, and an emotional journey from his father’s volatile world where unrequited love is sung out loud in restaurants, to a fraternity where the most important rule is to never reveal your feelings to another guy in public.
With tenderness, humor, and hypnotic clarity, Chaves explores the landscape of love that holds us together, beyond the addictions that bind us–from the broken faith that sends a boy spiraling down, to the grace that finds the man.

C an this suburban mom find balance between her “momminess” and her “sexiness?”
She’s smart, pretty, and runs her own business. So then why does she feel so dead inside? Between work, two kids, and a husband who finds her about as exciting as furniture shopping, this is the story of a (formerly-exciting but now way-too-typical) suburban mom who diagnoses herself with Momnesia and sets about finessing a new version of her old vivaciousness:
Momnesia (mahm-nee-zhuh) -noun-
Loss of the memory of who you used to be. Caused by pregnancy, play dates, and trying to keep the house cleaner than the Joneses.
She finds some adventure pursuing her own interests, and does make some new friends (including the battery operated variety), but she still feels like nothing more than a caretaker.
In between dealing with her husband’s manic-depressive behavior, drama with her friends, and some naughty Internet escapades, she questions, “Is it that I haven’t been myself? Or is it that I am being myself but just different than I used to be?”
It isn’t until she tosses the Invisible Rule Book altogether, that she discovers life–and love–have more to offer than she ever imagined!
In celebration of my new release, “Unexpecting,” all three of my books (including its predecessor, “Momnesia,”) are being reduced to only $1.99 for one week only!

But one burning question always entered into my mind as I began to budget, coupon, and bring down my debt – what’s the point? my heart still struggled daily with greed and fear when it came to money.
In this four week mini Bible Study, we are not going to examine how to manage our money. Instead we are going to examine our heart towards money. One thing I have learned when it comes to money is this, it’s really not about HOW much money you have that will determine whether you are broke or rich, it’s WHERE your heart is towards God and towards money.
If we want to be good stewards of our money and honor God with the resources He has given us, then we need to look at our heart, not JUST our budget.
I pray this Bible Study is a blessing to you and your family!
God Bless,
Heather Bixler

- Full case study on reading comprehension using mind maps.
DESCRIPTION
We are all visual learners, at least in part. We absorb information visually more than in any other way. Yet, visual literacy is mostly missing from mainstream education. So, how can elementary school students visually represent information and ideas to improve their ability to build on what they already know, think critically, and learn meaningfully?
This question is the central theme of Mind Mapping for Kids. MMFK offers elementary school teachers a blueprint for how to introduce mind maps in their classrooms to help students think more rigorously and increase engagement by transforming linear, static information into connected, dynamic maps.
Part I of the book discusses the fundamentals of mind mapping for teachers, parents, and students. Part II demonstrates how to use mind maps and the eight reading comprehension strategies to help students develop critical thinking and better comprehend what they’re reading. Part III provides 15 examples of mind mapping uses in school and at home and 5 templates to use in the classroom.
Give mind maps a try. They can be used independently or in conjunction with other literacy instruction programs. Either way, they will bring fun and excitement to the classroom while simultaneously improving thinking, reading, and learning.
Orphan of the Olive Tree (A Historical Family Saga) by Mirella Sichirollo Patzer
Genre(s): Literature & Fiction, Genre Fiction, Family Saga, Historical, Fiction, Historical Fiction
A historical fiction novel and family saga about two families bound by a blood oath, a dreadful curse, the casting of the evil eye that will shatter lives, and the dark family secret one woman will risk everything to keep buried.
From two neighbouring villas in the heart of the Tuscan countryside to the elegance of Siena; from a world steeped in ancient superstitions to a culture where family honour is paramount comes, this multi-layered novel of the lives, loves, secrets and strivings of two women and their families in the 13th century.
A blood oath to wed their first born children binds the Benevento and Ventura families. When Prudenza Benevento learns her nemesis, Felicia Ventura, is pregnant, she is jealous and secretly casts the curse of the evil eye upon her. Felicia gives birth to twin boys. Jealous, Prudenza visciously resurrects an ancient superstition that unidentical twins can only come from different fathers. The scandal tears apart Felicia’s marriage and makes her an outcast in the small Italian village where they live.
Fate intervenes, and when Prudenza gives birth to twin daughters, she is desperate to save herself from the same scandal that ruined Felicia. She orders the midwife to take one daughter away. With only a gold ring and a brocade blanket as clues to the infant’s past, the midwife leaves the child and the items in an olive tree in front of a small convent. The nuns lovingly name the child Olivia and raise her.
Years later, in a shocking encounter, Olivia meets a young man named Luca. When an act of God nearly kills her, it is Luca who comes to her rescue. Soon, their love for each cannot be denied. When she finds herself with child, Luca offers to care for her and the child, but cannot wed her because he is already betrothed. Despite her misgivings, her love for Luca proves strong and Olivia places her faith in him and follows him to his new villa and a new life. Luca makes numerous unsuccessful attempts to avoid his forthcoming marriage and marry Olivia instead, but the blood oath and Church laws make it impossible. As the date of Luca’s wedding draws near, and the secrets of Olivia’s secret past begin to surface, long buried secrets are exposed in a twist of fate no family member can anticipate.
An absorbing novel about wicked intentions, medieval superstitions, a curse uttered in envy, undisclosed secrets, unstoppable destinies, and two generations of women and the extraordinary event that will vindicate or destroy them.

Tollesbury Time
Nothing is real
And there’s nothing
To get hung about
sing the children…
In September 2008 I accompanied the police as they entered a house in Tollesbury. I was a psychiatric nurse at the time. The owner of the house was one of my patients. He had not been seen for two weeks – neither had his wife or his son.
What I saw that evening will stay with me forever. On the walls of the lounge, in tiny, neat black writing, were thousands and thousands of words. The torch beams picked them out as if they were groups of well-ordered flies. The words continued up the stairway, onto the landing walls and into the main bedroom. I had been in the house before and had seen some of the writing upstairs. Still I was mesmerised.
What you are about to read are the words that I saw on those walls…
