A striking and emotionally resonant collection, SUBWAY DANCER AND OTHER STORIES is a compilation of stories originally published in some of the most respected literary magazines in the country, including The Antioch Review, Virginia Quarterly Review, Glimmer Train and Ploughshares.

Business Plans That Work: Why Some Do and Most Don’t – A Fresh, New Approach to Creating a Thriving Business by cynthia kocialski
Genre(s): Business & Investing, Small Business & Entrepreneurship, Entrepreneurship, New Business Enterprises
S tarting a new business? Step One: Ditch the typical business plan! Discover a more strategic way to create a thriving business from day one!
Every 50 seconds a new business is started with high hopes, and every 60 seconds a business closes with disappointment. It’s a scary fact when starting a new business.
There’s the old route of writing up yet another business plan, but guess what? Look at the results – half of all businesses fail within the first 5 years. It’s not necessary for a business to succeed!
Business Plans That Work is not the boring step-by-step approach to writing a typical business plan, but something quite the opposite … learn how to replace the standard business plan with something that is easier to create and more appropriate for a new business.
The typical business plan of the past was a mere fairy tale, full of guesses, estimates and assumptions of what might be. No real facts only made up numbers. And that is not a plan for success.
So what is this new approach then? Entrepreneurs should start with a concept plan first.
Unlike a business plan, a concept plan takes all the guesses and estimates and carefully organizes them and prioritizes them upon how much of an impact they will have on a new business. Then at that point, it devises a plan to prove it’s a viable business idea and/or concept that one can move forward with.
Business Plans That Work provides useful statistics, case studies and a simple six-step Concept Plan formula to help budding entrepreneurs create a starting point for setting a new business on the right path from day one. And if they already have a business plan, that’s ok too. The book shows how to convert it over to a Concept Plan.

Showcase Book – Race to Splendor
showcase book
“ Blindly, she inched along a floor pitching as violently as the deck of a boat in a midwinter storm. Her hands touched the threshold opening onto the ninth floor foyer at the instant the glass transom over her head exploded into a thousand pieces. Reflexively, Amelia cast her right arm in front of her face, but not before blood spurted from her scalp and ran down her checks. She crumpled beneath the doorframe, curling into a ball. Amelia screamed again as a twenty-five-foot expanse of wood paneling and masonry pitched outward and plunged nine stories to Montgomery Street below. She knew that no structure on landfill, no matter how well built, could withstand much more shaking without collapsing.
Then, just as suddenly, the convulsions subsided.”
Early in 1906, the ground in San Francisco shook buildings and lives from their comfortable foundations.
Amidst rubble, corruption, and deceit, two women-young architects in a city and field ruled by men-find themselves racing the clock and each other during the rebuilding of competing hotels in the City by the Bay.
Based on meticulous research, A Race to Splendor tells the story of the audacious people of one of the world’s great cities rebuilding and reinventing themselves after immense human tragedy. Filled with courage, passion, and conflict, Amelia Bradshaw’s spirit will capture your imagination as she strives to redraft her life amidst the ruins with both help and hindrance from a wayward son of privilege who pulls her into worlds she’d never have known.
“Richly drawn characters…will keep you turning these pages!”
-Michael Llewellyn, author of Twelfth Night
Reviews
Ware’s trailblazing woman is a feisty host for an affecting story of the struggle to rise above the wreckage of mankind.
Meticulously researched, this richly detailed novel, whose earthquake scenes are so real that readers will believe they are witnessing the event, will enthrall… an unforgettable story. 4 1/2 Stars
A Race to Splendor is a penetrating look at what it takes to survive and what it means to succeed in a city that has literally crumbled. Greed and envy, anger and rage, love and lust all make an appearance in this fascinating exploration of human nature. The intriguing, dedicated personalities in Ware’s latest release provide an excellent source of information about the San Francisco tragedy as well as captivating entertainment.
“Vividly evocative of the time and place, Ware’s first novel in ten years deftly blends history and romance in a page-turning story. From her gripping descriptions of the earthquake and its aftermath to the interplay between the protagonists, this is another winner from an excellent wordsmith.”
For me, the story itself was a winner. I also thoroughly enjoyed reading the author’s note and her acknowledgements as they were filled with expressions of her inspiration for this story and the historical research she did that brought about A Race to Splendor, which I think is an ode to courageous and extraordinary women who have contributed greatly to history but have largely been ignored.
Ciji Ware continues to shine a spotlight on women’s accomplishments in history. Highly recommended, this novel glows with a careful blend of history and romance
Her writing is pleasant and it’s clearly evident that she’s done her homework.
I could barely put A Race to Splendor down once I would pick it up to start reading. The story moved effortlessly with amazing detail. No doubt explicitly researched, A Race to Splendor was a top notch novel that showed the aftermath of the San Francisco Earthquake of 1906 through the eyes of a determined woman.
I really enjoyed “A Race to Splendor.” Ciji Ware is an incredible writer, and her research is flawless. If you enjoy historical fiction, you will enjoy this one.
I found the writing to be very believable that I could relate to the damage that this earthquake had done to property and people in San Francisco.
A Race to Splendor is fast paced, meticulously detailed, events come to life as do the characters, and Ware sweeps the reader away with her ability to transform readers into the past. I highly recommend A Race to Splendor to anyone who enjoys historical fiction or is new to the genre.
My first Ciji Ware novel but definitely not my last; the pages literally turn themselves!
Ware’s research is impeccable and she brings these situations and circumstances to life for readers. She gives a face to a tragedy that many don’t know much about and I thought she did a wonderful job of it.
A Race to Splendor is pitch perfect! While it is a hefty book, at no time does the storyline drag or feel forced. I immensely enjoyed watching Amelia and J.D.’s relationship shift and grow and to see how my opinions of each of the characters, both prominent and secondary, changed as more information was revealed.
A Race to Splendor brings to light many social issues, such as women’s rights and the rights of the Chinese immigrants forced into servitude at the turn of the 20th century, while also promoting how everyone has the chance to change, even those most likely not to. If you enjoy historical fiction, you won’t be disappointed with this gem.
This is a book that I would recommend to fans of historical fiction, and to the rest of you too. It has romance, suspense, and backstabbing.
I loved A Race to Splendor. Ciji Ware’s storytelling was fantastic. Just when you think things are going well, a new wrench gets thrown into the mix. I read this book pretty quickly as I was always wondering what would happen next. The earthquake and fire description were riveting. It reminded me of one of my favorite movies, San Francisco starring Clark Gable.
Ciji Ware’s A Race to Splendor can not be missed! What an epic novel full of heart thumping action, suspense, drama and romance! It contains perfect elements of history to awaken our dormant interest into past events long forgotten. Ware succeeds in grabbing our attention from the moment we learn of her inspiration in the Author’s Note to the prologue with Amelia’s beseechingly sad letter to Julia Morgan. Chapter One explodes with Amelia’s own determination to vex the men of their claim to the Bay View Hotel.
Ciji Ware is acknowledged as one of the best historical fiction authors, and she does not disappoint in A Race to Splendor. Meticulously researched, she transports the reader to turn of the century San Francisco and makes them feel the devastation and the pioneering spirit that rebuilt the city.
Another big thumbs up to Ms. Ware for writing well-rounded baddies and showing us why they’re bad instead of telling us with snarling lips, stinking breath and feral smiles.
A Race to Splendor is an entertaining summer read.

The Last American Martyr by Tom Winton
Genre(s): Literature & Fiction, Literary, Mystery Thriller & Suspense, Thrillers, Suspense, Literary Fiction
E very now and then one small soul rises from the crowded depths of obscurity and causes the earth to wobble on its axis. This last happened in 2008 when an unemployed doorman stepped onto the worldwide stage in Stockholm and accepted The Nobel Prize for Literature.
In this me-me twenty-first century, Thomas Soles may very well be the last American martyr. This self-described “simple man” writes a book that is so powerful it brings back to life the all-but-dead international labor movement. The response to his thoughts and perceptions are astounding. Around the globe, from pole to pole, America to Zimbabwe, the footsteps of marching workers begin to tremor the earth. But not everyone is pleased.
There’s a tight-knit, elitist clique that is absolutely livid over the thoughts and ideals that fill the pages of Tom’s book. And when he and his wife, Elaina, return home from Sweden, they realize just how dangerous this profit-hungry mob can be.
Mortified by the horrible scene that awaits them inside their apartment, the Soles have no choice but to flee their longtime home. Hoping to find peace and anonymity, they bounce all over America in an RV. But they don’t find what they’re looking for. Instead they become moving targets. And everywhere they go they’re followed by a succession of life-threatening events.
What follows are a few of the stunning comments readers have made about Tom Winton’s debut bestsellier, Beyond Nostalgia:
“It’s very difficult to write what is called a literary novel without coming across as wordy or plain rambling. I find Faulkner and Joyce and Lawrence, among others, all too fond of the sound of their own words and unable to “get on with it”. There is no merit in words for their own sake in a novel: the object is to tell a story and take the reader’s imagination and keep it. You’ve done that brilliantly. All the usual trite approvals with regard to voice, scene setting and dialogue apply, so I won’t insult you by adding to them.”
Nicholas Boving
“I admire your writing skill, your wit, your way with descriptions, your ability to draw the reader from the end of a chapter into wanting to go on to the next as quickly as possible. I was overwhelmed by your description of what it’s like to try to get a book that you believe in looked at by an agent or publisher. You write about romance, and that includes sexual activity, in a way that is moving and never salacious, I think you understand women and you love your characters; why shouldn’t the reader fall for them too? All in all, Tom, it’s a very powerful, very well told piece of history. It entertains, it has a moral and it speaks to the spirit. What reader can ask for more?”
Lee Shore
“I started to read BN and intended to read page to page, but
a lack of restraint had me jumping forward to find out where this story was
going and then jumping back. Winton squeezes a lot of emotions into each
section and uses a first person narrative that actually sounds like a young kid from New York. I thought of James Jones right away when reading BN.”
Shane Kennedy
The Summer Girl
“This really is a lovely piece of writing, so many plus points I don’t know where to start. It’s heartfelt. It’s romance, not sex. It’s evocative. It’s addictive. It’s written from life? Didn’t all of us want to meet somebody like Theresa, and how many of us did?”
Michael Ashley Torrington, author, ‘Kristin.’
“What amazing reading! I have to admit that I am dumbfounded to read such a lovely, haunting and relational story from the hands of a man! There are a few men who can write in such a way–it is wonderful. Thank you for sharing this.”
B. Mayo-Neville

REVIEWS:
“McCracken’s first novel offers a coherent structure, an exact feel for the Toronto locales, and, in Pat, a hugely attractive sleuth figure.” –Toronto Star
“With Safe Harbor, Rosemary McCracken proves why she’s already won international acclaim. This is an absorbing page-turner you won’t want to miss.” –Rick Mofina, bestselling author of The Burning Edge
“Rosemary McCracken has a deft touch for writing believable relationships, especially among families. These particular characters will soon feel like people you know and don’t want out of your life. Add to this an exciting plot and you’ll be ready for a great read.” –Maureen Jennings, author of the Detective William Murdoch mysteries
“The title of Rosemary McCracken’s debut novel, Safe Harbor, resonates on many levels. Safe Harbor, a house that offers refugees with questionable legal status a home, is a central player in the novel’s fast-paced and involving plot. But the words “safe harbor” also reflect the life financial advisor Pat Tierney has chosen to live after her husband Michael’s sudden death. In the opening pages of the novel, Pat is ripped from her safe harbor by a dark secret from her husband’s past. She is forced to meet challenges she could never imagine, but her courageous refusal to turn from danger makes her a very compelling protagonist. This novel will stay with you long after you’ve turned the final page.” –Gail Bowen, author of the Joanne Kilbourn mysteries
“Safe Harbor, by Rosemary McCracken, is a clever, original combination of domestic cozy and international intrigue. Its heroine, a respectable widow with a good home, a loving family and a lucrative job, suddenly finds herself responsible for a young boy with a mysterious past somehow connected to her own. Torn between saving him and saving her comfortable life, she risks all she has in a story that’s full of twists, turns, surprises and startling revelations. Touching, intriguing and sometimes downright scary, this story hooked me from page one until the final action-packed pages.” –Rosemary Aubert, author of the Ellis Portal mystery series
“This family drama quickly spirals into an intriguing mystery. A highly entertaining read!” –D.J. McIntosh, author of The Witch of Babylon

The One For Me – January Cove Book 1 by Rachel Hanna
Genre(s): Literature & Fiction, Chick-Lit, Contemporary Women, Romance, Contemporary, Contemporary Fiction, New Adult & College
I n the first book of the January Cove contemporary romance series, Kyle Parker has just started his real estate investment business and is doing well. Unattached and not interested in falling in love, he dives head first into his business in the small coastal Georgia town.
Jenna Davis’s life has come to a screeching halt. After making the worst decision on her life during college, she now finds herself a single mother about to lose her home over a decade later.
When these two cross paths after many years, sparks fly and Kyle puts up a brick wall to protect himself. In this sweeping romance, emotions run high as the two try to find themselves, and each other, again. If you love a modern contemporary romance, this is it!
Here’s a sample:
“Kyle? Are you still with me?” Jenna asked looking at him.
“What? Oh, yeah. I was just thinking about something.” Kyle didn’t know how to feel. Should he kick her to the curb and laugh all the way home at the thought of her being homeless and sad? Should he scoop her up in his arms like he wanted to do? Of course not. That part of his life was long over, and he wasn’t signing up for more hurt from Jenna.
“Thinking that you told me so?” she asked looking down at her lap. She’d changed so much over the years, but some things hadn’t changed at all. The way her hair smelled, even from a few feet away. The way she looked down nervously when she thought someone was angry with her. He’d seen her do it with her parents many times. Even the way her voice lilted in that sweet Southern way that drew him to her in the first place.
“No. Of course not,” he said, lying through his teeth.
“It’s okay, Kyle. You have the right to gloat.”
“Fine. You want me to gloat?” he said standing up, finally unable to hold back his words. “You left me standing there like I didn’t even matter, Jenna. Like our five years together meant nothing to you. So, yes, there is a part of me that feels pretty vindicated in all of this. He might have money now, but you didn’t get the benefit of that, did you?”
“I’m so sorry, Kyle. I should have handled it all better. I know that. I knew it the moment I drove away and saw your face in the rear view mirror. You didn’t deserve that, and maybe that’s why I’m being punished now.”

CURLY BILL AND RINGO
Why did the legendary gunfighter, Ringo, come to Boot Hill? Rumors and innuendo ignite the small frontier town.
Did the wealthy rancher, Willy Gibson, hire him to combat the cattle rustlers? Was he here to even up some old grudges? Or to hunt down the men who tried to kill him?
Miss Sarah, the most beautiful woman in town, seemed in a much different mood after he checked in at the hotel where she worked.
Curly Bill knew who he was, or thought he should, since they rode together for a time. Curly also remembered that around Ringo, you always watched for signs of trouble, if you were smart.
“Would you mind telling me why you’re in Boot Hill, when you’re supposed to be in hell?” Curly asks.
Ringo glanced at him out of those cold clear blue eyes. “I came back,” he said quietly. “I got lonesome down there. Kept thinking about some fellows I should have taken with me.”

M iles McTavish, 15, is undersized and inoffensive. He likes old bicycles, new music, and (don’t say it too loud), model railroading. As the only child of wealthy Dallas executives, it appears that a life of trustafarian ease is his birthright. All those expectations are upended, however, the day he is summoned to the hospital bed of his friend (and fellow English three-speed enthusiast), Morgan Davies. Professor Davies has a secret to share: he once was a time traveler. He also has a task for his young friend: Miles is to travel back in time to 1928, and across the sea to England. Once there, he is to find “a girl with a gift, a girl born out of her time” and a “secret that was not meant to be” and then return home with them both. Miles must first find the courage to pass through the strange portal in the Vermont woods that will launch him on this mission, and then to face down a series of do-or-die crises (including a crisis of confidence). He must also navigate the low-tech, class-bound world of England in 1928 while keeping his true identity a secret. Miles’ quest for the girl and the secret carries him from a great estate in England’s beautiful countryside to London’s jazz-age cabarets, and from terrified boy to heroic young man.

About the Author
Born and raised in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania Saleem is the product of a single-parent home. Though surrounded by the evils of the street life he always found an escape in music in literature. Music and books were a fantasy world he could escape to when the pressures of the real world became overbearing. At a young age he began to pen poems, songs, and short stories. This love of writing, and ability to do so, developed over the years and at the age of 21, he began his writing career. After two attempts between the ages of 21 and 24 he figured he had finally gotten it right. The death of his close friend motivated the writer to become more reflective and introspective with his work. This friend, Kareem Williams, became the spirit of the protaganist as well as other characters in his first release GET IN, GET OUT. Once released, realizing the readers may have fallen in love with the character Lexi, the fiance of Marquise, he decided to pen LOVE AND THE GAME, which served as an extended version to GET IN, GET OUT for those who wanted to know what Lexi’s fate would be after losing Marquise and being forced to fend for herself. After the critically acclaimed LOVE AND THE GAME, Saleem finished a manuscript he had begun about human trafficking. in CRYING FOR TEARS, Saleem hoped to highlight the parallels between young women who are lured by money to prostitute in an urban setting and the horrific global trade of women for the same reason. Saleem then went on to release the SINCERELY YOURS series, which were anthologies written in order to bring readers closer to the author. SINCERELY YOURS II was released May 12th and another novel titled G.O.D. is slated for release some time in 2012.

W e grow up with the Legend of King Arthur … But where did he come from? Who was Merlin? What part did the Druids play in bringing Arthur to his round table? This is the story that came before, when Britain was just a Shadowland.
Shadowland is a story of historical fantasy set in Dark Ages Britain.
`I have lived more years than I can remember, probably more than the sum of all your years combined. Kings have called me friend and brigands have sworn to burn the flesh from my bones even if they have to search all seven halls of the shadowland to find me.’
On the night of midwinter’s eve, a storyteller takes his listeners back to the Dark ages and a tale from his youth.
Deserted by its Roman masters, Britain has been invaded by the Saxons at the invitation of Vortigern, traitorous leader of the Britons. Now, as the tribes unite to reclaim their land, one man must rise to lead them and become their true and only king.

NASTRAGULL (Pirates) by Erik Martin Will%C3%A9n
Genre(s): Literature & Fiction, Science Fiction & Fantasy, Science Fiction, Space Opera
N ASTRAGULL: Pirates (Volume 1).
As a tight-knit group of human cadets heads home after eight years of military training, their interstellar transport, Bright Star, comes under attack by pirates–and after a bloody battle, they’re taken prisoner. One of the cadets, Alec Horn, eventually manages to escape with the Bright Star’s captain and an emperor’s ransom in loot. Together, they set out on a harrowing adventure to rescue their friends and comrades.
There are just two minor complications: during Alec’s captivity, he “awakened” to the voice of the universe, Nastra–and worse, he fell madly in love with a young pirate woman, Alexa. Theirs is a forbidden love, one that will soon embroil everyone and everything they know in the madness of the Third Universal War.
Meanwhile, at the opposite end of the known universe, a creature that has hibernated for thousands of years rises from her long rest: the ruthless alien known as Marquessa De La Hoff, history’s most feared military commander.
Alec and Hoff are linked by an intricate network of fate, history, and destiny. As they learn much later, Nastra speaks to us all; everyone hears it, but few actually listen. The day you do listen to the universe and the words of its parent–the creator, GULL–is the day you have “awakened” to your full potential.
Only Alec and Hoff are currently “awake.” Neither understands what’s happening, though each is gradually becoming aware of the other–and of what Nastra is trying to tell them. But for its own mysterious reasons, the universe cannot allow more than one listener at a time. Therefore, it prepares to birth a messiah: the NASTRAGULL, a child who must set the universal balance right…lest the universe cease to exist altogether.

Outcomerun – Positivity gives you the Edge by Eoin Ryan
Genre(s): Self-Help, Happiness, Self-Esteem
H ow does Positivity give you the Edge?
Allow me to prove it by simply using the opposite. Do this experiment now: I want you to tell yourself repeatedly: ‘I am utterly useless and I am guaranteed 100% to fail’. Make it worse by adding this to the end: ‘and everyone knows it…’ Say it at least 10 times out loud. [Start now] Did you feel vibrant and full of energy saying it? Did you continue all the way to 10? I bet most of you didn’t say it out loud…? For those of you who didn’t do it at all – did the thoughts of saying it make you feel too uncomfortable? No problem. If it’s any consolation, I felt terrible writing it.
Outcomerun – Positivity gives you the Edge is an antidote to negativity. The exaggerated experiment you just did is a played up representation of how many people view themselves. The feelings you experienced link to your thoughts and reverberate through your body. Change your thoughts and habits and you will change how you feel about yourself.
Outcomerun through the 7 Pillars will bring you on a journey towards greater Positivity and you’ll become more active. It is a unique self-development book that works on both the mind and the body. We know they are linked, so why not work on both simultaneously?
Become the Positive person you really want to be while getting fitter. Healthy body – healthy mind.

The Way Is a River of Stars: A Buddhist’s Journey Through Northern Spain on the Camino Pilgrim Route by Helen Burns
Genre(s): Religion & Spirituality, Spirituality, Travel, Europe, Spain, General, Specialty Travel, Literary & Religious
I n a memoir of saints, sages, and swollen ankles, Helen walks across the Catholic heartland of Northern Spain. Her chosen route is the picturesque Camino Way, a Christian pilgrimage revered since medieval times. Ancient towns and villages, each with a distinct culture and cuisine, mark the way.
Memories and miles intertwine, spanning not only the countryside but also her Christian upbringing and later life as a Buddhist. What is it that compels her into the cathedrals and rustic churches she finds during her month-long journey?
‘Just as I walked from Roncesvalles to Santiago de Compostela – a different woman now to the one who began – I also travelled from one religion to another. Perhaps I put on pilgrim boots to better understand the message of each – the verbs of their prayers – what it means to engage with life, the joys of aloneness and the delights of company.’
Through recollections of meditation retreats, monasteries in Burma and encounters with the gilded Saints and Madonnas of Spanish cathedrals, Helen contemplates the heart of two religions, in her quest for deeper meanings that can unite us all.

All the Roads That Lead From Home by Anne Leigh Parrish
Genre(s): Literature & Fiction, Short Stories, Single Author, Chick-Lit, Contemporary Women, Contemporary Fiction
“ Anne Leigh Parrish has written a collection of stories that deserve a place on the shelf next to Raymond Carver, Tom Boyle, Richard Bausch, and other investigators of lives gone wrong. Parrish writes with painful clarity about marriages turned sour, children at war with their parents, women drifting from one damaging relationship to another, and about unexpected acts of generosity-an impoverished woman giving her battered piano to a priest who had befriended her, a schoolgirl who bribes a boy to pretend an interest in an overweight classmate, then finds that her kindness has disastrous consequences. These are potent and artful stories, from a writer who warrants attentive reading.” – C. Michael Curtis, Fiction Editor, The Atlantic Monthly
