The Gordonston Ladies Dog Walking Club by Duncan Whitehead
Genre(s): Literature & Fiction, Mystery Thriller & Suspense, Mystery, Thrillers
S omething is not quite right in the leafy Savannah neighborhood of Gordonston.
As the friends and fellow members of her afternoon cocktail club gather to mourn the death and lament the life of their neighbor, Thelma Miller, not all is what it seems.
When old friends vie for the attention of widower, alderman and mayoral candidate Elliott, jealousies surface and friendships are strained. An old woman with a dark secret and an infamous uncle plots her revenge for a perceived wrong done over thirty years before, a once successful children’s writer with his own secret is haunted by memories of the past and aspiring model Kelly Hudd has just won the trip of a lifetime.
Soon secrets are revealed and an intertwined web of deceits and lies surfaces in the middle class neighborhood where a killer lurks, but is anyone really who they seem to be? A mysterious old man in South America, a young Italian count parading the streets of Paris and a charitable and kindhearted nephew recently arrived from India add to the remarkable assortment of characters in this story of intrigue, deceit and revenge. What is the secret a recently retired accountant is trying to hide and just why did former showgirl and attractive sixty two year old widow Carla Zipp really have plastic surgery?
As the plot thickens and the Georgia temperature rises we discover who is destined for an early-unmarked grave in the wooded park that centers the tree-lined avenues of Gordonston.
A mysterious organization with links to organized crime, a handsome fire fighter who can do no wrong, and a trio of widows with deep hidden agendas compound a story of simplistic complexity. As twists and turns lead the reader to a conclusion that they will not see coming and a sucker punch ending that will leave readers breathless, the Gordonston Ladies Dog Walking Club’s top priority remains the need to chastise the culprit who refuses to ‘scoop’ after his dog walking sessions in their treasured park.

1 30 Family Meals We All Love and are Easy on the Budget
Cooking on a budget doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice flavor or nutrition. Cooking on a budget is a skill that you can learn over time. Yes, it may take a little more time and planning but in the end it turns out the more you focus on purchasing local, unprocessed food and preparing meals at home, the healthier and tastier your meals will be, and the more money you’ll save.
In my family we are no strangers to stretching the dollar, living in an ex-Communist country that is still one of the poorest within the EU. We are always living paycheck to paycheck, so we find the cheapest ways possible to cook meals that will feed our family of five. Our favourite recipes are strongly influenced by traditional cuisine and contain a lot of simple, hearty foods. When I think about it, every meal in my house is a comfort food and is also cooked with the budget in mind.
In my new cookbook I am offering you some great tips on cooking on a budget as well as 130 recipes for savoury soups and stews, satisfying salads, hearty casseroles and delicious desserts. In the end of the book you will find a few nourishing skin masks you can prepare at home, because after saving all this money on food we deserve a little pampering, don’t we?

The Spirit of Things – A Girl’s Journey in the Search for Truth (The Girl with the Emerald Eyes) by Karnika E. Yashwant
Genre(s): Literature & Fiction, Classics, Science Fiction & Fantasy, Fantasy, Fiction, Fiction Classics
A Reflection on Climate Change
As a reflection on the global aftermath of climate change, The Spirit of Life brings a compelling message to take heed about planting bad seeds that will reap a storm. Written by Bjarke Steen Rasmussen, with co-authors Anine Ross and Karnika E. Yashwant (Mr KEY), this docudrama focuses on the balance of life and death. The mission of the main characters is to save the earth from the effects of a “diminishing” sun within less than 30 hours of this realization. Without each other’s help and each one’s fortitude, the battle for earth’s redemption would be lost.
This story, although written in fiction style, is based on real events which have been occurring all over the world due to neglect and abuse of earth’s natural resources. Three youngsters and two adults from West Virginia will take you on a rollercoaster of emotions from amazement on “Forest Fire”, old flame rekindled in “Amie and Josh”, sweet young love in “A Stitch in Time”, and mystery in a cuckoo bird and dreams connecting to the past. The Spirit of Things delivers a positive figure in Heraia Lowrie, who must walk the path of desolation to complete her mission in the novel. Her wholesome, lovable and budding powers endear her to all.
The Spirit of Things is populated by people as ordinary as American Pie and pumpkins on Halloween Day. The cast of characters includes Heraia Lowrie – the girl with power over forces of nature; Manuel Pinero – Heraia’s admirer; Jose Pinero- the anti-hero and another admirer of Heraia; Joshua Bofard, a local news reporter and Amalinda Porter, Josh lady-love. The refreshing and innocent character of the heroine repeatedly collides with the selfishness and weaknesses of the two boys as they find themselves in a constant tug-of-war for Heraia.
The Fertility Rite sketch launches the mystery that unfolds to reveal a deeper meaning to all events. News events and cast of characters are juxtaposed to move as if connected by unseen threads. The Spirit of Things is not only conceived to entertain, but to serve as a lighthouse in the midst of national tragedy due to conspiracies, hurricanes and climate change. The characters show how to be a hero in as few as two steps, as they learn to trust one another.
By coincidence, Hurricane Sandy blew into town on the same month of the novel’s conception by the three authors. Such events as the torrent of rains, the flooding, lost of lives and properties were included in the book for realism and reference to actual events. A map is provided so readers can trace the events as they happen, also a scrapbook of particular events through the camera of Virginia news reporter Joshua Bofard and sketches of Jose Pinero, the refugee from San Salvador. A very precise quote that runs through all the characters and events is this double-edged quotation:
“Faith consists in believing when it is beyond the power of reason to believe. -Voltaire”
