.
Nine years ago, Molly Tanner witnessed a young girl’s abduction in the busy city of Philadelphia, shifting her occasional clairvoyance into overdrive. Two days later, the girl’s body was found, and Molly’s life fell apart. Consumed by guilt for not acting upon her visions, and on the brink of losing her family, Molly escaped the torturous reminders in the city, fleeing to the safety of the close-knit rural community of Boyds, Maryland.
Molly’s life is back on track, her son has begun college, and she and her husband have finally rekindled their relationship. Their fresh start is shattered when a seven-year-old girl disappears from a local park near Molly’s home. Unable to turn her back on another child and troubled by memories of the past, Molly sets out to find her, jeopardizing the marriage she’d fought so hard to hold together. While unearthing clues and struggling to decipher her visions, Molly discovers another side of Boyds, where the residents–and the land itself–hold potentially lethal secrets, and exposes another side of her husband, one that threatens to tear them apart.

J ust because Wilkin’s a crackhead doesn’t mean the shadows aren’t real.
They’re real. And they’ve been haunting him since he was seven years old. Mostly he ignores them.
But when the ghost of his best friend from childhood shows up at the local motel, Wilkin can’t ignore the call of friendship. And when his friend’s killer buys the motel so he can destroy the remains, Wilkin can’t ignore that, either.
Wilkin steals his friend’s skull before the killer can destroy it and is plunged into a hot mess of a supernatural thrill ride.
A death-race pursuit of a child’s skull. A spirit-whispering trucker hauling plush toys to Kansas. Five demonic farm-kids in a housing project. A Dodge City marshal who executes wayward ghosts. A nasty yellow jersey that takes the joy out of living. And a graveyard full of snitches.
It’s enough to make you want to hit the crackpipe. All leading to a climax where staying alive is the least of Wilkin’s worries.
Because when most of the people around you are spirits anyway, DEATH AIN’T BUT A WORD.
Reviews:
“Marks delivers a sixth-sense thriller with a twist…an intriguing tale with an unlikely protagonist, and he may have also created a new urban-fantasy subgenre…Marks’ prose provides a sense of hope and humanity in bleak situations. He also delivers a thought-provoking story, with a high level of creativity and flair…just the right amount of intensity throughout. An imaginative, offbeat urban-fantasy…” — Kirkus Reviews
“Death Ain’t But A Word is a fast-paced, thrilling book that is both hilarious and heartwarming…an off-the-wall book that is impossible to put down and impossible not to love.” — San Francisco Book Review (5 of 5 stars)
“An enticing blend of the paranormal and urban fiction. Highly recommended.” — Midwest Book Review

The Tudors: The Complete Story of England’s Most Notorious Dynasty by G.J. Meyer
Genre(s): Biographies & Memoirs, Ethnic & National, Irish, Historical, British, Leaders & Notable People, Royalty, History, Europe, England, Ireland
B ONUS: This edition contains a The Tudors discussion guide.
Acclaimed historian G. J. Meyer provides a fresh look at the fabled Tudor dynasty–and some of the most enigmatic figures ever to rule a country. In 1485, Henry Tudor, whose claim to the English throne was so weak as to be almost laughable, nevertheless sailed from France with a ragtag army to take the crown from the family that had ruled England for almost four centuries. Fifty years later, his son, Henry VIII, aimed to seize even greater powers–ultimately leaving behind a brutal legacy that would blight the lives of his children and the destiny of his country. Edward VI, a fervent believer in reforming the English church, died before realizing his dream. Mary I, the disgraced daughter of Catherine of Aragon, tried and failed to reestablish the Catholic Church and produce an heir, while Elizabeth I sacrificed all chance of personal happiness in order to survive.
The Tudors presents the sinners and saints, the tragedies and triumphs, the high dreams and dark crimes, of this enthralling era.

Memoirs of an Outlaw: Life in the Sandbox by Robert M. Tanner III
Genre(s): Biographies & Memoirs, Leaders & Notable People, Military, History, Middle East, Iraq, Iraq War, Professionals & Academics, Military & Spies, United States
I n Fallujah, during a particularly difficult time in the Iraq War, a group of Marines are deployed on a tour that will bring them closer together, while threatening to tear them apart. The Delta Company Outlaws are a group of Light Armored Reconnaissance Marines deployed in 2004 to one of the most hostile war zones in the world. Through the memoirs of one Marine, this touching story encapsulates the drama surrounding everyday life during the Iraq War. With a bond formed through blood, sweat, and tears, a group of unfamiliar Marines will come together stronger than family.
Memoirs of an Outlaw: Life in the Sandbox is a dramatic new take on the Iraq War that focuses more on the personal aspects of war rather than exclusively on combat. With a touching approach to the camaraderie, daily life, and devastating losses, this enlightening memoir by Robert M. Tanner delves into the brotherhood that’s formed throughout a deployment while documenting the combat experiences and daily life of a Marine. Using personal experiences, this engaging story hooks readers with drama, action, and honesty while painting an illuminating picture of both the funny and tragic sides of war.
Inspired by a bond that’s stronger than blood, Memoirs of an Outlaw began as a therapeutic way to document wartime experiences and eventually led to a full-fledged memoir. Deciding to focus on the daily life and camaraderie of war, the story captures the tension, drama, and bonding that comes with combat and living in a hostile environment far away from home. By focusing on the humanistic side of the armed forces, Memoirs of an Outlaw perfectly captures a unique moment in time during an extraordinarily challenging part of the war.

The Year THEY Tried to Kill Me: Surviving a surgical internship…even if the patients don’t by Salvatore Iaquinta
Genre(s): Biographies & Memoirs, Professionals & Academics, Medical, Humor & Entertainment, Humor, Doctors & Medicine
“ The only people who think you are a doctor are you and your mom.”
Not exactly the warm welcome I hoped for. But I was just a naive Wisconsin boy, fresh out of medical school and new to Oakland, California. I chose Highland Hospital for my surgical internship: an entire year filled with sick patients, brutal work hours, more brutal staff surgeons, and flawed attempts to maintain a long-distance relationship. Yet, somehow, it’s a work of nonfictional comedy.
I take on many roles throughout the story. I’m a kid who still plays Tetris, a guy who can’t commit to his girlfriend, an untrained doctor who finds himself cutting open people’s skulls, and a fish out of water who is called to the ER to drain the blood from a cocaine-engorged penis.
But this adventure isn’t just crazy hospital anecdotes or what it takes to become a surgeon. It’s a coming of age tale about learning what it means to be a caregiver. Sure, I worked 40 hours without sleep, but that is only one of the ways They tried to kill me. Their real evil was crushing the enthusiasm and compassion of their trainees. I struggled to remain a “normal” human while joining a fraternity of holier-than-thou surgeons, and nothing grounded me more than trying to cope with the illnesses within my own family.
If this book proves anything, it’s that “Laughter is the best medicine, but surgery is a close second.”
Enjoy.

River Yellow River by J.E. Smith
Genre(s): Literature & Fiction, Genre Fiction, Coming of Age, Historical, Historical Fiction
“ The past never stays where you want it to.”
After five wasted years in Cusco, Peru, Josué moves back to the small jungle village of Quellomayo where he grew up. Twelve years before, heavy rains hit the entire region, swelling the river and wiping out half of the village. Josue’s father dies in the flood, and his mother is forced to sell their farm to the father’s apprentice. When Josué comes back, he reluctantly accepts work on what was once his family’s farm. Two days into his new job, the rains return again, and the village is forced to relive the nightmare of twelve years ago.
With the rain also comes the same in-fighting that left the village unprepared for the impending flood. In this moment Josué is forced to reconcile the ghosts of his and his town’s past with his role in the uncertain future.
As much a portrait of life of the rural poor in Peru, River Yellow River is the exploration of the purpose of strength and power of redemption. With a mix of allegory and naturalistic imagery, this delayed coming-of-age novel is at the same time particular and universal; a novel that speaks to all, but could only have come from the jungles of Peru.

Forever After (a dark and funny fantasy novel) by David Jester
Genre(s): Literature & Fiction, Science Fiction & Fantasy, Fantasy, World Literature, Mythology, Paranormal
F orever After follows Michael Holland, a grim reaper in a grim town. An embittered and melancholic man who struggles to grasp the purpose of his own existence, or lack thereof. He is a minuscule cog in a monumental machine and knows less of his role than those surrounding him — from his boss, the mighty Angel of Death, to his friend and flatmate Chip: a grubby midget tooth fairy with an addiction to pot and procrastination.
Brittleside is a dank, dark and decrepit town, and Michael Holland is its reluctant reaper. From dealing with the drunks, the druggies and the wasters, to tracking an escaped demon who believes he is Santa Claus; Forever After follows his escapades over four dark and humorous tales.
A paranormal and comic romp through a fantasy world where the mythical, the fantastical, the insane and the typical combine. A mix of dystopia and comedy, if the works of Philip K. Dick and Terry Pratchett were to ever procreate, Forever After would be the bastard child of their creative communion.

How to Learn & Memorize Medical Terminology … Using a Memory Palace Specifically Designed for Achieving Medical Fluency (Magnetic Memory Series) by Anthony Metivier
Genre(s): Education & Reference, Medical Medicine, Reference, Dictionaries & Terminology, Test Preparation & Review, Professional & Technical, Medical eBooks, Education & Training, Science & Math, Medical
I f you’d like to improve your ability to learn and memorize medical terminology by as much as 100%, 200%, even 300% (or more) … using simple memory techniques that you can learn in 15-20 minutes (or less), then this may be the most important book that you will ever read.
Believe it or not, it really doesn’t matter if you think you have a good memory or not.
The information in this book will teach you:
* Why memory is like a bicycle everyone can ride (with some minor personal adjustments).
* The real reason why you should never be squeamish about using memorization techniques so that you can recall medical terminology with ease.
* Why and how some of the most famous memory skills are applicable to learning any subject, especially medicine.
* How you can easily create a 26 “letter location” memory system based around the alphabet to establish “medical fluency.”
* Unique techniques that will have you literally “tuning in” on medicine and its terminology.
* How to separate and organize medical terminology in the most effective manner for memorization.
* Two secret ways you can use relaxation to aid the memorization process. These two methods alone are worth the price of this book because they will literally eliminate the stress and apprehension as you study, learn and memorize medical terminology.
* And much, much more …
These techniques have been used by real medical students to make real strides in their professional careers as medical experts, most of whom previously considered themselves owners of a “bad memory.”
Don’t worry! None of these techniques are rocket science.
Frankly, if you can memorize a short email address or the name of a movie, then you can use this system to memorize medical terminology.
But there’s really no time to lose.
Every day that you are not using this simple memorization system, you are literally stealing from yourself the joy of being able to recall an abundance of medical terminology as you easily expand the natural abilities of your mind.

They say pride comes before a fall… so, watch out! One afternoon spent in an abandoned lot with a reverend and homeless people compel her to reevaluate the Christian values she previously prided herself on having. Monkey Mind: A Memoir of Anxiety by Daniel Smith
Genre(s): Biographies & Memoirs, Memoirs, Professionals & Academics, Medical, Health Fitness & Dieting, Mental Health, Anxiety Disorders, Psychology & Counseling, Pathologies, Medical Psychology
A nxiety once paralyzed Daniel Smith over a roast beef sandwich, convincing him that a choice between ketchup and barbeque sauce was as dire as that between life and death. It has caused him to chew his cuticles until they bled, wear sweat pads in his armpits, and confess his sexual problems to his psychotherapist mother. It has dogged his days, threatened his sanity, and ruined his relationships. In Monkey Mind, Smith articulates what it is like to live with anxiety, defanging the disease with humor, traveling through its demonic layers, and evocatively expressing its self-destructive absurdities and painful internal coherence. With honesty and wit, he exposes anxiety as a pudgy, weak-willed wizard behind a curtain of dread and tames what has always seemed to him, and to the tens of millions of others who suffer from anxiety, a terrible affliction. Aaron Beck, the most influential doctor in modern psychotherapy, says that “Monkey Mind does for anxiety what William Styron’s Darkness Visible did for depression.” Neurologist and bestselling writer Oliver Sacks says, “I read Monkey Mind with admiration for its bravery and clarity. . . . I broke out into explosive laughter again and again.” Here, finally, comes relief and recognition to all those who want someone to put what they feel, or what their loved ones feel, into words.

Anton is turning 16 this summer of 1952, but his mother’s plans are getting in the way of his dreams. For a start, she’s sold the Packard to set up a ballet school, the Packard he was planning on learning to drive. And now she’s bought a piano and expects him to accompany her classes. But after Anton falls for the girl upstairs and then rescues his neighbour, a WWI flying ace, from a tumble, life seems suddenly rich with possibilities. That Jasmine is years older and worlds away in sophistication, and his war hero is a grumpy old man in a wheelchair being held a virtual prisoner by his daughter, are details Anton at first refuses to dwell on. But when the old man gives him a bicycle, Anton returns the favour by planning a fantastical escape to Salt Spring Island.
Anton’s tale is interwoven with his mother’s, whose story begins in 1935 when she is fourteen and filled with dreams of dancing like Isadora Duncan. Grotesquely mistreated by her alcoholic mother, Yvonne finds fleeting freedom with a Russian-born dancer but then falls prey to manipulative impresario Harold Crouch. When mother and son escape to Canada, Harold tracks them down. But then his cruelty goes too far and Yvonne finally pushes back. In one reckless moment she takes the liberating step that makes the present possible. Tent of Blue is a story of captivity and escape, of discovering the strength to fight back against the world and seize freedom.

CARING AND NURTURING
The lion is the emblem of Venice, but the common cat rules its narrow streets and alleyways. A prince among these feline rulers is Piccolo, and what a fine life he leads! Especially after dark-when the streets are full of possibilities!
Then one night, Piccolo makes a discovery that threatens his carefree life and his independence and starts him on a new and special kind of adventure.
In these pages, you will also meet Caesar-Piccolo’s older and somewhat cynical friend, and Sophia-the shoe shop cat, to whom Piccolo turns for advice when his life takes its unexpected turn. And you will meet two irresistible kittens-one spotted and one striped-who need a home and who help Piccolo discover his own tender heart.
Author Carol Talley, who first visited Venice vicariously in 1977, returned to that city-which many call the most beautiful in the world-to capture its watery magic in breathtaking prose.
Illustrator Itoko Maeno’s enchanting renderings of the canals, markets, crooked byways, boats, and bridges of Venice and her wise and witty portraits of its two- and four-legged citizens will delight children and adults alike.
At a time when we are recognizing the need for boys as well as girls to develop nurturing skills, Piccolo appears as a welcome model for all children.
Piccolo leads a life full of adventure and possibilities. And then two homeless kittens decide to adopt the free-spirited Piccolo. “I’m not a Papa cat,” objects Piccolo. “I’m a tomcat.” Children will delight in seeing how the kittens help Piccolo discover his own tender heart and a new kind of adventure.
A SURPRISE and added bonus is the “Enrichment Information” which includes lots of facts about daily life in Venice. There are colorful thumbnail sketches of Venice, Marco Polo, Italian words and phrases, Canals of Venice, Bridges of Venice, Flags of Venice, Regattas and Gondolas and Gondoliers! This is fascinating detail that did not make it into the story itself, but is very rich in interesting description.
A second big plus is the “Letter to Parents and Educators” which includes many relevant questions and comments to facilitate conversation with young readers about the message of the story…that “Papas” as well as “Mamas,” can be the most nurturing and caring parents! So even though on the surface, this is just an engaging story for children, it is also truly helpful in a real way.

O riza Martins presents THE SEVENTH PROPHECY, an emotion-filled journey and a harrowing account that will take hold of the reader, who will undoubtedly identify with the many archetypes used by the author, who draws on concepts such as materialism, idealism and beliefs.
It is the story of a person who, after suffering an accident, spends many months in a coma. During this time, the character has an out-of-body experience, witnessing events from both the past and the future, in addition to discovering the new body which he will inhabit in his next life.

The Book of Jotham by Arthur Powers

2 012 Tuscany Prize for Catholic Fiction–Novella Winner
The Book of Jotham by Arthur Powers
For 23 years the completed manuscript of The Book of Jotham sat in the author’s desk drawer–typewritten–collecting dust and time. On an early autumn day in 2012, the manuscript arrived at Tuscany Press, and we discovered this compelling and moving story.
Jotham is a mentally challenged man-child who, like the other apostles, follows Jesus as Christ carries out his ministry and experiences death by crucifixion, resurrection, and ascension. Yet the other apostles–the dedicated Mary, Peter, Thomas, and the rest–while they care for Jotham and look out for him, don’t understand why Jesus loves him so. Thomas even says, after Jesus offers a parable, “I don’t see why all the pots can’t be strong and beautiful.”
Jotham may be different, but through him, we come to see Jesus and Jotham not just with our eyes, but also with our hearts.
ARTHUR POWERS is himself a convert to Catholicism. After spending much time in Brazil in the Peace Corps, working with those for whom the Catholic faith is woven into life, and after meeting a woman who eventually became his wife, he came to question his very rational agnosticism. Powers was baptized into the Roman Catholic faith in 1976 as a thoughtful, aware adult of 29 years.

Deathsworn Arc 1 : The Last Dragon Slayer (An Epic Fantasy Adventure Series with Dragons) by Martyn Stanley
Genre(s): Literature & Fiction, Science Fiction & Fantasy, Fantasy, Epic
I mmerse yourself in “Deathsworn Arc 1 : The Last Dragon Slayer” – part of a fantasy adventure series
There is rumoured to be a noble dragon, an almost mythical beast, long thought to be extinct in Torea – terrorising a village in the north, at the foot of the Sky Cleaver mountains. Saul Karza, Emissary to the Empress and licensed magic user, has been sent by the empress herself to assemble a band of warriors to investigate, and if it is true to vanquish it.
The band of warriors he’d set out to assemble having failed to materialise, he enters the town of Trest with a homeless dwarf, and two sell-swords from the barbarian northlands, who had grown weary of working as labourers at the dock.
It seems logical to seek a fabled dragon slayer, the last known living soul to prevail in battle against a noble dragon, even though he may not turn to be all they expected. When the companions set out from Trest, they find simply getting to the Sky Cleavers proves to be a challenge and by the time they are ready to confront the beast, the party has changed drastically, combining some of the rarest races in Torea, all joining the party under very different circumstances.
As the gravity of their grim task becomes apparent, the warriors begin to realize, their chances of success are not good, and even if they can prevail against the odds, it seems unlikely they will all survive the encounter.
When the quest is done, the true nature of the Empress’s mission is revealed. What is not revealed is the mysterious ‘Truth’ which Brael continually references but it unable to talk about, nor the devastating ramifications the ‘Truth’ has on everyone.
The Sequel ‘The Temple of the Mad God’ is currently expected to be released summer 2013.

The Omega Paradox by Richard Kellier
Genre(s): Literature & Fiction, Genre Fiction, Medical, Religion & Spirituality, Fiction, Religious Fiction
S omething new walks the face of the Earth.
A scientific mystery on a collision course with occult and religious beliefs.
It all started as a mild preoccupation for geneticist Tim Leigh; then swiftly blossomed into a full blown obsession. Never a moment can go by without him being drawn to the series of framed prints on his office wall. As he stares at the images, the images stare back through dark inscrutable eyes. There they sit, little fat Buddhas, challenging him to solve the mystery behind their imperturbable gaze.
The images Tim gazed at in this daily mind-game were a series of ancient acupuncture charts; but behind their deceptive facade lay hidden a mystery that had survived down the ages. An ancient enigma waiting to be revealed.
Rachel Kardo had no idea what she was being roped into when she agreed to help a colleague investigate what he believed to be a hidden message within ancient medical charts. Before she knew it she was at the centre of the most extraordinary events in human history. Some say it is a New Beginning, some say it is the End of Days for humanity as we know it. Only one thing is certain; by whatever forces rule our fate it has been decreed that the time for a new beginning is now.
The decrypted message reveals something deeply mystifying, unprecedented and bizarre. An event that will change everyone’s lives – forever.
Now there is something new on the surface of the Earth; a thing more hotly argued over and disputed or accepted than any previously revealed scientific discovery. Whichever side of the argument you choose to adopt there is an opposing force that intends to destroy your belief system. Descendants of a Nazi Elite who have remained hidden while still engaged in their evil pursuits set out to destroy the promised new beginning.
Nazi scientists embark on a project to create a super-race. What they actually create is an abomination of the human form – a being inherently evil. It’s Creator, Erica Wiligut, is the nemesis of all that is good – to some she will be seen as the Anti-Christ.
Events culminate in the ultimate battle between good and evil – played out at one of mankind’s most sacred religious locations – and a revelation for all humanity.
Be warned: All is not what it seems.
“Medical Fiction meets Religious Fiction meets Science Fiction all Wrapped in a Cocoon of Occult Beliefs & Ancient Mystery.”

F rom the bestselling author of the “dazzling historical saga” (The Washington Post), Moloka’i, comes the irresistible story of a young immigrant bride in a ramshackle town that becomes a great modern city “In Korea in those days, newborn girls were not deemed important enough to be graced with formal names, but were instead given nicknames, which often reflected the parents’ feelings on the birth of a daughter: I knew a girl named Anger, and another called Pity. As for me, my parents named me Regret.”Honolulu is the rich, unforgettable story of a young “picture bride” who journeys to Hawai’i in 1914 in search of a better life.Instead of the affluent young husband and chance at an education that she has been promised, she is quickly married off to a poor, embittered laborer who takes his frustrations out on his new wife. With the help of three of her fellow picture brides, Jin prospers along with her adopted city, now growing from a small territorial capital into the great multicultural city it is today. But paradise has its dark side, whether it’s the daily struggle for survival in Honolulu’s tenements, or a crime that will become the most infamous in the islands’ history…With its passionate knowledge of people and places in Hawai’i far off the tourist track, Honolulu is most of all the spellbinding tale of four women in a new world, united by dreams, disappointment, sacrifices, and friendship.

I magine in your darkest moment, as you lay on deaths door step; The God of the universe reaches down (in the most amazing, miraculous way) and hands you the ultimate second chance. Then does the same thing for your brother the very next day!! ALL because a stranger from a 1,000 miles away, was convicted by God to give his kidney away….
This is a very powerful book about the author’s experience in facing the ups and downs of kidney disease–After playing Jesus Christ in a local passion drama for 9 years, his world is turned upside down; As he states in the first chapter, “this would cause me to question who I was, all that I had believed, and God himself.” We live through Troy’s journey and the emotional and spiritual roller coaster with him, but always we sense God in control of the situation-even when all seems hopeless.
You will find yourself eagerly reading, in suspense, wanting to find out what happens next and how God will work. The author merely talks to us as if to friends, sharing something wonderful and awesome that happened to him; How at death’s door step, he found God’s Hope, Peace, and the reason for it all.
“I knew all of these things happened for a reason! God revealed afterwards, the reason for the pain, was to bring Hope, the reason for the Hope was to bring the miracle, and the reason for the miracle was to write this book to share the Hope with you!!” – Troy Lewis
This book really isn’t just one persons story of trial – its every ones story, because it’s God’s story. Through it you will learn to persevere, that what may seem like a closed door is really just a redirection to something even better. This is a beautiful inspirational book of love, struggles, Faith, and Hope. When a person is feeling down or lost in their own troubles, it will be an excellent resource to read over and over again. A family secret is revealed during an ill-fated–yet hilarious–trip to Disney World.
Sixteen-year-old Hannah Sampson knows her family is not what you would call normal. Her father compulsively buys dented cans and has a particular fondness for cans without labels, which are extremely discounted because their contents are a mystery. Her mother takes countless pictures of her family and then glues them down into the pages of her scrapbooks, but does not allow anyone to look at them. Ryan, Hannah’s mischievous fourteen-year-old brother, is headed straight for the remedial track at the local community college, if he’s lucky. Ben, her eight-year-old brother, is a walking sound effects machine, who prefers to communicate with noises rather than words. While Hannah is focused on escaping her working-class Connecticut suburb, she also finds herself being tugged back home as she worries about her brother Ben.
Hannah’s parents inflict one last family vacation on the Sampson children, a trip that goes comically wrong almost from the get-go. Hannah is forced to confront her family’s past in Disney World, of all places, when an emotional argument prompts her parents to disclose a secret they have been keeping from the children for sixteen years. Ultimately, she must decide whether to leave her hometown and not look back, or to focus on helping her family.

Excerpt from Dented Cans
Here is a brief sample, during the trip to Disney World. This is in the voice of Hannah, the narrator of the novel.
We did a few more rides, and then we went to the World Showcase, the section of EPCOT that consisted of pavilions “showcasing” various countries. In reality just a bunch of overpriced restaurants and gaudy gift shops “hawking” ethnic food and trinkets. Before we were allowed to eat lunch, we had to locate a restroom so we could rid our hands of the thousands of germs that only Dad had the ability to detect. Then we spread out across two benches in Italy right next to Alfredo’s Restaurant, where people who actually purchased their food went to eat. It was a good thing we’d brought our own peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. That and chicken fingers would have probably been a hard ethnic cuisine to place. Maybe the Nutritionally Defunct Pavilion?
Mom began passing out the sandwiches. I felt as if I shouldn’t eat mine, knowing the hard work that went into making it.
“This World Showcase is so boring,” Ryan said.
“This World Showcase is so stereotyped,” I said. “Who knew the only thing Italians do is listen to ‘O Solo Mio’ while they eat spaghetti and meatballs? And if you’re German, you obviously dance the polka. Half of it isn’t even true.”
“Yeah, I didn’t know that Mexicans just hit piñatas all day. And you can buy your own to whack for just 19.99,” Ryan said.
“Hannah, stop questioning everything. Just try to enjoy it,” Dad said.
Stop questioning everything. I think Dad was just quoting Socrates there. Didn’t he say that? My fellow Greeks, stop questioning everything. Just enjoy. Enjoy EPCOT.
“OK, I won’t point out that Africa, the second largest continent on the planet, isn’t even represented here,” I said.
“We’ve heard enough of your opinion on the matter. Can you please just let your younger brother enjoy this?” Dad said.
Sure. I could keep the truth to myself. Socrates and I were kindred spirits. Perhaps Dad had some hemlock for me to drink?
“Did you bring any canned peaches for dessert?” Ryan said.
I laughed.
“OK, very funny,” Dad said.

A story about a young Ukrainian man who was very fond of his wife but secretly dreamed of other women. A friend of his advised him to visit a local brothel…
Chapter I
His name was Kostya Steshenko and he was having a hard time these days. He wanted a new woman so much that he could hardly control himself. Kostya worked in a big city, and every day he saw around him hundreds, even thousands of the most attractive and beautiful girls in the world.
‘It’s good for people abroad, in Europe. Someone once said that a pretty woman is a rarity there,’ Kostya sighed heavily. ‘How can I resist temptation when in my country of Ukraine, one in two girls is so sexy that the stars of Playboy and Penthouse are ugly in comparison!
It is very easy to lose your mind because of the many miniskirts and revealing decollete. What an idiotic fashion trend that is — now everybody can see a girl’s underwear, even at a long distance!
‘Everybody can see even the tiniest patterns on their bras, and miniature panties are just popping right up from their jeans! And why do they call these simply symbolic laces ‘panties’?
Kostya felt badly because he respected his wife very much. At one time he loved his wife Lesia madly, but even now, after six years of marriage, he had special tender feelings for her. Kostya was very afraid to hurt his Lesia because he valued their relationship very much. After all, he had nobody closer in the world than his parents and his wife.
But now, despite everything, the guy really desired any other woman but his wife. He was eager for someone else. He didn’t even care if she was a blonde, a brunette, or a redhead. The main thing for him was that she would be another woman!
Six months ago, a little daughter was born to their family. The parental concerns and problems that came along with this event reduced Kostya’s desire for some time, but after the baby had grown a little and he had more free time, his lust came back to him with even greater force.
Spring came, and then a hot Ukrainian summer. The avenues of the big city were flooded with slender legs and bare navels.
Kostya felt defeated. He could not concentrate on his work, and his reaction to anything, except pretty women, greatly slowed. Even his old tricks to calm himself down did not help him now as they did before. Previously, whenever Kostya saw a seductive girl on the street, he was always able to cheat himself: ‘Well, what can I do? I can go up to her, introduce myself, but even if she agrees, what’s next? I’m at work, I always have many things to do, and my boss is permanently supervising me with his cell phone.’
But at last Kostya came to the point where any tricks to cheat his own libido were no longer helping him. He saw very clearly that the next time he found himself in a similar situation, he just would not be able to restrain himself. One day he would end up sending everything–his job, his boss, and even his wife, who he still loved and respected–straight to hell. The next time he would forget about everything and everybody, and like a mad deer he would gallop toward any other girl he might see on the street.
One day, Kuzma, one of his colleagues, noticed his nervous mood:
‘Hey buddy, are you in love with someone? You’ve been looking like a madman during the last few days!’
Kuzma, ten years older than Kostya, had very common manners. Most of all, he loved to pick his big nose, which was enormous like a Sumy potato. He also had chronic sinusitis, which everybody was able to smell even from a few steps away.
‘Well, so tell me, who is she? Who is your muse?’ Kuzma was obviously ready to hear an interesting story.
The smell of sinusitis is rather unpleasant, but Kostya was very glad that at least someone in this world took an interest in his problem.
‘There is no muse!’ he said, waving the question away nervously and sighing heavily. ‘I just want someone…’
‘You want someone? But what about your wife?’

A real treat. Readers who delight in tales that focus on second chance relationships with the Lord and beloved humans will relish Carol McCormick’s heartening novel (Five Stars). Harriet Klausner, Amazon’s #1 Hall of Fame Reviewer
How does a man pick up the pieces when his world crashes around him? Misplaced priorities shattered his marriage. Problems almost crushed him. Love motivated him to mend the damage, once he found all the pieces.
After only a few months of marriage, Lorraine left Dylan on a wintry night after he’d spent one too many nights out with the guys. Unable to cope with the loss, Dylan escapes the painful feelings by drinking them away. This decision costs him a year-and-a-half of his life after he stops in a little mountain town and ends up in the local jail. When he’s released, he returns home in search of a job to get his life…and his wife back.
THE MISSING PIECE is not only a love story about a man who loves a woman, but is also a love story about a merciful God who loves mankind, even when he falls. The novel is an emotionally-charged journey of hope and redemption with a touch of spunk, a hint of humor, and a few twists along the way.

Tea & Sprockets: A Modern American Poetry Book by D. L. Lang
Genre(s): Literature & Fiction, Poetry, American, Anthologies, Fiction, United States, 20th Century
P oetry direct from the soul to the page
Tea & Sprockets is a contemporary poetry collection by modern American poet D.L. Lang. This 150 page single author anthology spans 15 years of work encompassing poems from 1995 to 2010. Across the 106 selected poems, Lang weaves together themes of love and friendship, death and loss, war and peace.
About the author
Aside from being a prolific 20th century poet, Lang is best known for her films The Hebrew Project and Liquid Wind and her singles Last Chance Disaster and Wilderness as Tranquoizier. She lives in Marin County, California with her husband, where they enjoy copious amounts of Judaism, nature, and indie music. Lang also has a great fondness for penguins, studying history, and unlocking genealogical discoveries.
In her own words
It was always a dream of mine to publish a poetry book. I’ve been writing poetry since I was 11 years old. The two oldest poems in this book are Surf Clown and The Outsider. It’s so awesome to be able to share my work with you, so please enjoy the journey! To me, poetry is a coping mechanism, spiritual journey, humorous observation, and linguistic exploration, but what it truly is: my soul on a page. The mystery of poetry is that the reader never truly knows what the writer was thinking, so it takes on a meaning of its own to each person who reads it and relates, or not, to it. I am an avid tea drinker. If you drink a cup of hot tea, you are forced to slow down and appreciate the tea. It is almost a meditative process. Poetry can have a similar contemplative quality about it. But then there’s the sprockets: the every day routine where your mind is constantly churning and the world is constantly turning. You can read poetry in this way as well translated into music or film there is a speedy quality. When I write sometimes the poetry is a direct flowing of my soul so fast that my pen cannot keep up: that is the sprockets. Other times, this is the result of meditation on a theme or word–there’s your tea. The spiritual and the mundane are life’s tea and sprockets.

Praise for the books of William Casey Moreton:
“…Moreton keeps readers hooked.” — Kirkus Reviews
“….Moreton is a superb and inspired storyteller and with so many mediocre books being published, this is a relatively rare feat.” — Deadly Pleasures
For fans of Lee Child, Robert Crais, and Harlan Coben, here is white-knuckle suspense at its finest:
John Coburn, a Harvard-trained doctor still reeling from his father’s sudden death a few days earlier, wanders into a bar in New York City’s Greenwich Village a few minutes before midnight. He encounters an old friend from college, a man named Brian Ripley, whom he hasn’t seen in nearly 20 years. Ripley is with a beautiful young woman and is clearly in a hurry to leave. Coburn could have never been prepared for Ripley’s reaction to seeing him, and he is even less prepared for what happens next.
The following morning, the young woman with Ripley is found dead in Washington Square Park, the victim of a brutal murder. Coburn goes to the police and tells them of his encounter with Ripley the previous night. What the police tell him shakes him to his core – Brian Ripley has been dead for 15 years.
The story moves at breakneck speed as John Coburn searches for the truth behind the woman’s murder and whether or not he really saw his friend, or merely a ghost, that night.
WILLIAM CASEY MORETON grew up in the South and graduated college in 1993 with a degree in Religious Studies. He is the author of seven novels, including THE STRANGER BESIDE YOU, THE SEARCH, and 72 HOURS.
