Love Bites (Vampyres of Hollywood) by Adrienne Barbeau
Genre(s): Literature & Fiction, Romance, Fantasy & Futuristic, Science Fiction & Fantasy, Fantasy, Paranormal, Vampires, Paranormal & Urban
S he’s gorgeous–and only 450! He’s hot. She’s a vampyre movie star. He’s a cop. So what if they’re different species? In more than one way.
“Charming!” –The Romantic Times
“Adrienne has taken a very tired genre and super-injected it with a hyper-charged blast of raw sexual energy. A wild, tense, exciting ride that instantly grabs you by the neck and doesn’t let go!” –Rob Zombie, director of The Devil’s Rejects and Halloween
“Love Bites is pure fun from beginning to end.” –David Morrell, New York Times bestselling author of Creepers
“A fast, funny, sexy take on Hollywood vampires. Her vampires are not only divine, they’re famous!” –Anne Stuart, New York Times bestselling author of Fire and Ice
A witty take on vampyres–and Hollywood. Not to mention love…
Ovsanna Moore is the star of 17 blockbuster horror films, a few not quite so successful, and 3 that went straight to video. She’s also a 450-year-old vampire, whose clan includes Orson Welles and Theda Bara and most of Hollywood’s A-list actors…but not too many people know that.
Peter King is the poster boy for hunky Beverly Hills police detectives. When he detects Ovsanna’s pearly whites are often times bloodied fangs, instead of borrowing his mother’s garlic and holy water, he asks Ovsanna for a date. And a romantic Christmas Eve turns into a holiday of horror. Right through New Year’s.
First the paparazzi, then the werewolves, then the agents, and the rougarou at the Sportsmen’s Lodge–everyone wants a piece of Ovsanna. Literally. And it doesn’t help that Ovsanna’s personal assistant and sometimes lover is using black magick to get rid of Peter.
Ovsanna calls on her clan, the Vampyres of Hollywood, to help her and Peter fight for their lives against a menagerie of supernatural beasts that give John Carpenter’s The Thing a run for its money. Love does more than just bite in this witty, vampire-thriller romance.
Barbeau’s “Scream Queen” credentials make her the only author who could combine such a fast-paced, edgy plot with tongue-in-cheek references to the inner workings and vanity of Hollywood. A whirlwind of action, Love Bites is a hilarious and clever take on vampyres–as well as on Hollywood–that readers will never forget.
“The fast and furious final pages will leave fans hoping for a third installment.” –Publishers Weekly
“An engaging, sinister romp.” –Chelsea Quinn Yarbro, creator of the Saint-Germain vampire series

Genre(s): Biographies & Memoirs, Memoirs, Health Fitness & Dieting, Psychology & Counseling, Mental Illness
B LOOD RED THE COLOR OF INSANITY, She began talking to the walls, cursing and laughing, her words were of a sexual tone. The abuse she had suffered at the hands of her demon father was beginning to surface now after the trauma of having two babies within a year took its toll on her mind. She had stopped taking baths and wearing clean clothes. She painted her tiny kitchen blood red. She tried to stab my father to death, and would lay in her bed and say she was waiting to be sucked up to heaven through a straw. The Police car came to our house, she was handcuffed and put into the car screaming as they drove away, “my babies, my babies, who will take care of my babies?” Walk with me back in time as I revisit my families life with a mentally ill Mother and discover what secret in her childhood drove her there. We will journey back to her early years in Somerton, Az in the 1920′s, her marriage to my father in the 1940′s, her life with two small children in Long Beach, Ca. while he fought in WW2′s Battle of the Buldge. Read his memories that secured his place in the Great generation but would lead to the nightmares that haunted him the rest of his life. Then we will travel into the 1950′s when my sister and I were born one year apart and our Mother began her decline into the darkness of Schizophrenia. Wonder with me how she ever survived her years in the mental institutions with her unconditional love of family intact. Feel my pain as my sister and I are seperated from her and our family as babies to be cared for by Dad’s sister on the original Mann farm. Relive our growing up years in the 50′s and 60′s after coming home from the farm and surviving in a wounded family with a mentally ill Mother who whould appear back home for a time and then disappear again, and an alcoholic father doing the best he could to hold his family together. Follow me into adulthood as I marry a wounded child and raise my own family and discover the secret my Mother had carried in her soul is a curse and tries to infect the generations that follow. Feel our pain as our beloved older sister falls victim to a pain pill addiction that would take her beauty and end her life, our heartbreak as we try to save her but fail. Walk with me as I become my father’s caretaker during the winter of his life. Feel my hope and joy as I conclude that with Jesus Christ as my Savior, and the knowledge someday I will greet my loved ones again as healthy and whole in heaven, I will finally learn the truth, why my family had to suffer, what lesson God had wanted us to learn. One lesson I learned from my beloved Mother, to love, give, and serve.

S UMMARY
An Ancient Manuscript spells Death for all who come into Contact…
Andrew Carlish inherits a manuscript written by his ancestor Charles Darwin, who never published it because of the dynamic and provocative content. Before 35-year old Andrew and his young brother Joey can publish the document, there is opposition from established religions worldwide.
Fanatical religious sects and holy leaders agree its publication would be disastrous for their creed and they aggressively attempt to procure the original document at any cost. Within a few days, they violently murder editors and friends who have read the Darwin Manuscript in attempts to stop its publication.
The Mujahidin get involved and mutilate and kill an innocent woman, while two rogue CIA agents murder more people in their quest for the Darwin Manuscript. They attempt to destroy all copies of the manuscript and kill everybody who has seen it!
Andrew served 5-years with the SAS Regiment and he needs all his skill and experience to combat the enemy as they close in on his cousin Bertie’s moated farmhouse in the Malvern Hills.
They come under vicious attack from numerous killers who are determined to find and destroy them and the original manuscript.
This powerful novel, from Brian Hunt author of the Bestseller ‘Michael’s Irish Magic’, moves furiously through the streets of London and the country lanes of England. It also includes action from The White House, The Vatican, The Presidential Palace in Tehran, CIA Headquarter, and Lambeth Palace in London.
EXCERPT
“Jack Reynolds is my name,” said Jack, happy in the knowledge that it would never leave the room. He spotted the papers in the priest’s hands and reached down and took them, “Ah, the famous Darwin Manuscript, have you been reading it to the ladies, father?”
“Well, I was just about to begin, if you wouldn’t mind,” said Father Mitchell reaching up for the documents.
“Well, will you look at that, a nice warm coal fire,” said Reynolds, “You don’t see those very often today, and I quite miss them.” He handed the sheaf of papers to O’Malley who quickly tore them into four and placed them carefully on the high flames of the burning coal.
The women gasped and the priest shouted, “Stop that.” It was too late, of course, because the papers were already burning. More importantly, none of them noticed Reynolds take out a large revolver and screw on a silencer.
Four silent shots whooshed across the sitting room, each one a direct hit to the head. Father Mitchell sat almost upright in his chair with a blood-ringed hole in the centre of his forehead; Margaret Morris and Marjorie Hall sat on the sofa with similar wounds and Marjorie had a look of surprise on her face as if she saw her killer. Jennifer Astbury suffered a shot through the back of her head, which now slumped over her chest.
The room was deathly quiet except for the slight noise of Reynolds unscrewing the silencer. “Check the bodies, O’Malley,” he said, turning away from the horrendous sight as if ashamed.
He was not the least bit ashamed; he was mentally counting his lifelong kill tally and was disappointed it was just short of one hundred. It was much more than that if he included bombs, mortars, and other long-distance weapons but Jack was only interested in his handgun kills.
“Check the bodies!” said O’Malley, “Why me and why check? You can see nobody’s goin’ somewhere.” He made similar comments every time, but he enjoyed to leave much of the killing to Reynolds, and was an excellent back up and clean-up man.

Murder on the 19th Hole (The Zach Roper Golf Mysteries) by M H Burton
Genre(s): Literature & Fiction, Genre Fiction, Sports, Mystery Thriller & Suspense, Mystery, Women Sleuths
W hen he was young Zach Roper wanted to be a professional golfer and he thought he had the talent to make the grade, but an early marriage and children got in the way and he had to take a job that would make ends meet, so he joined the Seattle PD, as a beat cop at first, then moving on to detective. He became one of the best detectives in the department. Then he retired and, now divorced and with children grown, he decided to take a shot at pro golf on the over-50 Champions Tour. His struggles to make the cut were interrupted by a corpse in “Murder in the Deep Rough” and he reluctantly turned detective to unravel a nasty case that involved murder for hire and embezzlement. Now he is back at the Iron Ridge Country Club in northern Minnesota, the scene of those old crimes, a year later hoping that he can concentrate on his golf game, which needs considerable work if he is to stay on the pro tour. Then he finds himself distracted by a sexy, sassy, mysterious lady who’s called The Thai Princess, though he finds that she is definitely not a Princess. She’s a retired LPGA pro lured back to the links by the prospect of a fat paycheck in a “Battle of the Sexes” Tournament that pits old male pros against old women pros. They may be old, but they aren’t too old to burn up the course, and they aren’t too old for sex and passion either. Zach has all he can do to keep up with The Thai Princess on the course, and in the sack. There’s hot action in both venues as things build to an exciting climax. Then the golf part is over, but the victory celebration is interrupted by the death of the biggest name of all the pro golfers assembled. Was it suicide after an embarrassingly failed attempt at a comeback? Was it too much of the booze that made that comeback attempt a failure? Or was it murder?
Once again Zach turns detective but this time he has help. The Thai Princess has brains in addition to hot passion, hot looks and a sweet golf swing. She turns her powerful ‘women’s intuition’ of sex and her intimate knowledge of the subtle differences between the male and female potbelly to good advantage and win’s Zach’s respect as a sleuthing partner. It takes all the brainpower both can muster have to solve this tough and complex case, a case that leads them to a place that’s almost off the map before they find the key clue that breaks it. It isn’t all work though, there’s plenty of time for love, borderline raunchy sex, cold beer, and even Swedish meatballs. And when they have solved the case it’s back to golf and passion in the form of sex in a sand trap and other kinky stuff. “Murder on the 19th Hole” is a detective thriller, but not all the thrills are in crime solving.

Leaving the Hall Light On by Madeline Sharples
Genre(s): Biographies & Memoirs, Specific Groups, Women, Parenting & Relationships, Family Relationships, Parent & Adult Child
“ A moving read of tragedy, trying to prevent it, and coping with life after.” – Midwest Book Review
“Brave and Gritty. Innovative. Resourceful. Inspiring.” – Story Circle Book Reviews
“Poetically visceral, emotionally honest. An extraordinary memoir.” – Irvin D. Godofsky, MD
“Moving, intimate and very inspiring.” – Mark Shelmerdine, CEO, Jeffers Press
“A sad but beautifully written book for anyone who has lost someone they love.” – Dina Kucera, author of Everything I Never Wanted to Be
Leaving the Hall Light On: A Mother’s Memoir of Living with Her Son’s Bipolar Disorder and Surviving His Suicide charts the near-destruction of one middle-class family whose son committed suicide after a seven-year struggle with bipolar disorder. Madeline Sharples, author, poet and web journalist, goes deep into her own well of grief to describe her anger, frustration and guilt. She describes many attempts — some successful, some not — to have her son committed to hospital and to keep him on his medication. The book also charts her and her family’s redemption, how she considered suicide herself, and ultimately, her decision live and take care of herself as a woman, wife, mother and writer.
A note from the author: I encourage you to read my book if you have been touched by bipolar disorder or suicide. And even if you have not, my book will inspire you to survive your own tragedies. As author Jessica Bell says: Leaving the Hall Light On is “a remarkable book and it SHOULD be read.”
A note from the publisher: I have seen Madeline Sharples read from her memoir and talk about her son’s suicide at multiple events. Afterwards, people always come up to Madeline to tell her “My son killed himself too” or “My husband committed suicide,” etc. Sometimes the people can’t even talk. They are in tears, and they just want to hold Madeline’s hand for a minute or ask for a hug. Clearly, there are a lot of people who have experienced the suicide of a loved one. And clearly, they don’t have many opportunities to share their grief. That’s why they are quick to embrace Madeline when they hear her story. They connect, and they always thank her for sharing her story. I tell you this because I have heard from a small handful of people who believe that Madeline is selfish to focus on her story when the real victim of this tragedy was her son. I find that criticism hypocritical on multiple fronts. Madeline would be the first to agree that the person who suffered most is Paul, her son. There is no question about that. And Madeline honors Paul’s memory by volunteering her time to prevent suicide and erase the stigma of mental illness — and by telling Paul’s story in the first part of the book. But Paul is gone, and the tragedy did not end with his suicide. For survivors, a suicide is only the beginning of suffering. Most people carry that suffering with them for years, rarely talking about it. But Madeline Sharples is willing to talk about what happens after a suicide. For her (and for many others), what happens is a journey deep into one’s self in the hope of maintaining sanity and having some semblance of a life after a loved one commits suicide. To call a journey into the self “selfish” misses the point. If you have experienced the suicide of a loved one, you already know this. If you have not experienced such a tragedy, be thankful, and look at Leaving the Hall Light On as an example of what it takes to enable the “self” to survive a tragedy of that magnitude.

L ance Allred was probably the last person you’d expect to make it in professional sports. Not only did he grow up on a polygamist commune in Montana, he struggles with obsessive-compulsive disorder. If those hurdles to the NBA don’t seem large enough, Lance is also deaf.Self-deprecating, witty, and wholly original, Longshot is the unlikely story of an unlikely athlete, who despite these factors and a lot of setbacks along the way, finally realized his dream of playing in the NBA, becoming the first legally deaf player in the league. Lance refused to let others’ expectations hinder his dreams, and his refreshing sense of humor about his disability allowed him to face these setbacks without giving up. From his childhood on the commune where he was “Mormon royalty” (his grandfather was prophet Rulon Allred of the fundamentalist sect) to his first time picking up a basketball (eighth grade), to his clumsy efforts to build his skills while growing into his 6′ 11″ frame, Longshot is a riveting account of a young man finding his purpose and letting the love of the game drive him toward his ultimate goal. Going inside the competitive world of collegiate basketball and the strange experience of playing professionally in Europe, with paychecks that never arrive and a knee injury Lance’s team didn’t want to cover, Longshot recounts the moment when Lance hit rock bottom. When he came back to the United States for surgery, Lance was prepared to let go of his basketball dreams and become a high school history teacher like his dad. But luckily he had an agent who didn’t want to see Lance’s dream die, and who found him a deal with the Idaho Stampede, an NBA Development League team in Boise. Although it was paltry pay, it was the last resort. And Lance slowly began to be noticed. Revealing the resilient heart of a young man who truly believes that it’s not about failure or success but about being willing to try, Longshot is a Rudy story for a new generation, a tale of inspiration, dedication, and the power of a dream.
