W hile more and more people each day become aware of the dangerous world of human trafficking, most people in the U.S. still believe this is something that happens to foreign women, men, and children–not something that happens to their own.
In this powerful true story, Theresa L. Flores shares how her life as an All-American, blonde-haired 15-year-old teenager who could have been your neighbor was enslaved into the dangerous world of sex trafficking while living in an upper-middle class suburb of Detroit. Her story peels the cover off of this horrific criminal activity and gives dedicated activists as well as casual bystanders a glimpse into the underbelly of trafficking. And it all happened while living at home wihtout her parents ever knowing about it. Involuntarily involved in a large underground criminal ring, Ms. Flores endured more as a child than most adults will ever face their entire lives.
In this book, Ms. Flores discusses how she healed the wounds of sexual servitude and offers advice to parents and professionals on preventing this from occurring again, educating and presenting significant facts on human trafficking in modern day America.

The Addiction of Mary Todd Lincoln by Anne Beidler
Genre(s): Biographies & Memoirs, Leaders & Notable People, Presidents & Heads of State, Specific Groups, Women, History, Americas, United States, 19th Century, Politics & Social Sciences, Women’s Studies, Self-Help, Health Fitness & Dieting, Recovery, Drug Dependency
M ary Todd Lincoln, wife of the president we have immortalized, has always been difficult for us to understand. She could appear poised and brilliant one moment, yet rude and ugly the next. Sometimes competent and strong, able to entertain dignitaries from around the world, at other times she appeared dependent and weak. At times she seemed utterly beside herself with sobbing and screaming.
Historians have mostly avoided saying very much about Mary Todd Lincoln except in reference to her husband, Abraham. To many it would seem that Mary Todd Lincoln is still an embarrassment in the tragic story of her martyred husband. But Mary Todd Lincoln lived her own tragic story even before Abraham was murdered. She was an addict, addicted to the opiates she needed for her migraine headaches.
Seeing Mary Todd Lincoln as an addict helps us understand her and give her the compassion and admiration she deserves. In her time there had been no courageous First Lady like Betty Ford to help people understand the power of addiction. There was no treatment center. In Mary Todd Lincoln’s time there were many addicts at all levels of society, as there are now, but it was a more socially acceptable condition for men to have than for women. More importantly, addiction was not very well understood, and it was often mistreated.
Because Mary Todd Lincoln’s only surviving son, Robert Lincoln, made a great effort to protect his mother and his family from journalists and historians, he intentionally destroyed most of Mary Todd Lincoln’s medical records and many of her letters. What he could not destroy, however, is the record of Mary Todd Lincoln’s pain and the record of how she behaved while living with this pain.
In The Addiction of Mary Todd Lincoln, we can see clearly, for the first time, what Mary Todd Lincoln had to live with and the courage it took for her to carry on.

How to Stop Fighting YOU …and lose that weight by Daniel Speraw
Genre(s): Health Fitness & Dieting, Diets & Weight Loss, Diets, Self-Help, Personal Transformation, Weight Loss, Weight Maintenance, amznJQ.onReady(‘hucJS’, function() {});
K eep Your Resolutions—permanently
WHAT IT WON’T AND WILL
Thankfully, this book does not lay out a new, miracle program or wonder diet, or give you any amazing, fat-burning exercises, or even regale you with inspirational stories.
Better…
• What it will do is give you a way to keep your resolutions—weight loss and otherwise;
• It is about stopping that inner struggle of pushing and then rebelling;
• Yes, this means releasing the root cause of your Inner Resistance
LOOKING IN THE WRONG DIRECTION
Each year, we spend billions of dollars on losing weight: we ride bikes that go nowhere and climb stairs to the same place; we join gyms, sign up for programs and buy DVD’s; we follow fad after method after plan and even resort to surgery.
So why aren’t we the land of the fit, home of the trim? In fact, sixty-eight percent of us are still overweight or worse.
The problem is that each new beginning so sadly comes with the end; oh, we feel excited because it is fun to imagine how we will be looking and feeling, how others will notice and even be impressed; it can even feel good to start the actual exercising and dieting.
And most of all, we are very, very determined.
The sad part comes when our enthusiasm begins to dim; but that’s no problem—no pain, no gain, right?—so we push a bit, and then find ourselves having to push harder because those inner questions grow more insistent:
It’s time to exercise, now? AND, I can’t eat until when? AND, No desert? Again?
But we keep pushing because we want it so badly—pushing and more pushing until finally we end up pushing back, letting it all go, along with our bodies. Some of us even dive into the worst possible foods and the best possible comfort; and of course, we feel disappointed, even guilty and often disgusted with ourselves.
For us, exercise and dieting have become an endless, pointless cycle of failure.
Why?
LOOKING TOWARD A 180
We keep searching for that next miracle diet, wondrous program or hi-tech machine, while each time hoping, praying, that it will finally give us some control over our weight; but it rarely does—because the answer is NOT OUT THERE.
It never was.
Making changes on the outside only changes us TEMPORARILY, which is why all of those previous weight-loss miracles did not keep working.
Permanent change BEGINS WITHIN. So what is this inner change that will make all the difference?
It is the release of that Inner Resistance we know so well. Without it, losing weight (and keeping any other resolution) will be a very different experience.
Releasing that Resistance is what this book is all about.

Bolero (A Nick Sayler Novel) by Joanie McDonell
Genre(s): KindleStore, Mystery Thriller & Suspense, Crime, Mystery, Private Investigators, amznJQ.onReady(‘hucJS’, function() {});
B olero is one of those rare thrillers you truly can’t put down. Introducing noir detective, Nick Sayler, it is a nonstop ride to an unexpected twist ending.
Despite his bronze star with its prized V for valor, Nick Sayler was once a thief, junkie, and prime suspect in a murder case. Now he’s a mostly changed man, a private investigator with a long list of rich clients and a good life. But even after ten years there’s not enough whiskey in the world to wash away acid-etched memories of Julia Carteret, the beautiful woman who took a bullet meant for him.
He never expected a second chance to make things right until he got a midnight call from a distraught young doctor and a plea from a fragile dancer with no money, no memory, nothing in her pocket except Sayler’s card, and the number 44 carved across her back. With bewitching violet eyes she looks so much like Julia, Sayler thinks keeping her safe could put him back on the road to redemption. But not long after he takes her home to his Hudson River barge, he learns that she has a past as dark as his own, and soon he’s protecting her from a patient sociopath with seemingly preternatural power to be in two places at once.
Sayler needs his wingman Meriwether, the brilliant savant, and his restless backup, Tommy Fallon NYPD homicide, whose dicey investigative methods keep them under the radar, which is the only place to be when Sayler taunts danger. As he nears old secrets linking the dancer to a strange group: a voluptuous redhead, a concert pianist, a skateboarder, and a Polish nanny, he starts to learn why the murderer’s sex-stoked obsession can’t end until the girl is dead. When the killer who never sleeps gets the best of an exhausted Sayler on an isolated island off the coast of Connecticut, in Manhattan’s meatpacking district, and on the streets of Harlem, smart money might bet both ways, except for one sure thing: in spite of his bad leg and worse habits, no matter what the cost, Nick Sayler will not let another woman die.

–Peggy Orenstein, author of Cinderella Ate My DaughterCaitlin Moran puts a new face on feminism, cutting to the heart of women’s issues today with her irreverent, transcendent, and hilarious How to Be a Woman. “Half memoir, half polemic, and entirely necessary,” (Elle UK), Moran’s debut was an instant runaway bestseller in England as well as an Amazon UK Top Ten book of the year; still riding high on bestseller lists months after publication, it is a bona fide cultural phenomenon. Now poised to take American womanhood by storm, here is a book that Vanity Fair calls “the U.K. version of Tina Fey’s Bossypants….You will laugh out loud, wince, and–in my case–feel proud to be the same gender as the author.”
