“Cook’s prose is often electric, especially the dialogue.” – Kirkus Reviews

Kak doesn’t mean to go backwards in grief. She tells herself to start at denial. It’s logical. It’s the beginning. Normal people start there and pay the price.

But Kak isn’t a normal person. She jumps the line, past denial, anger, bargaining and depression, to the end: acceptance. In doing so, she launches herself into a reverse journey through grief that will speed her toward destruction.

A thought-provoking tale of the future set on an isolated island fortress: “The ending is an absolute mind-blower” (Booklist).

Anax thinks she knows history. She has studied the stories of the distant twenty-first century very diligently. Her grueling all-day examination has just begun, and if she passes, she’ll be admitted into the Academy—the elite governing institution of her utopian society. But Anax is about to discover that for all her learning, the history she’s been taught isn’t the whole story. And the Academy isn’t what she believes it to be.

In this brilliant and suspenseful novel, Anax’s examination leads us into a future where we are confronted with unresolved questions about technology and humanity, artificial intelligence and the nature of consciousness.

DESCRIPTION:

Hey there, Big People! We are very glad that our book has found its way to you.

Whether you’re a parent, caretaker, teacher or guardian, we understand the need for guidance in the area of emotions in young children.

It is said that the human brain can only be considered fully-developed by age twenty-five. Everything a child learns before this age will serve as their blueprint for adulthood in future. It is vital, in this day and age, that children become enabled to discuss and explore their emotions, so that those which cause discomfort can be overcome before the child enters the ‘big world’.

Children need to understand that there are no ‘good’ or ‘bad’ emotions. Each emotion felt is equally important for the child’s development.

Unlike adults who have experienced various scenarios throughout their life, and have learned to deal with their feelings, children simply have not been presented with the number of experiences needed to create their own ‘database’ of emotional references. Without these references, forming emotional solutions and conclusions becomes difficult.

Children need to know that emotions are healthy and we all experience them.

A child has the right to feel angry when another child breaks their castle of blocks that took them hours to build; the right to be afraid when they go to the dentist; the right to feel frustrated when something goes wrong and they don’t have answers.

Emotions have many important functions:

Fear is the base for survival-instinct development.
Happiness tells us that the situation is pleasant.
Anger tells us when we’re against certain issues.
Emotions motivate us to act out our physical and also mental responses to stimuli.
Emotions help us to make appropriate decisions.
Emotions facilitate communication and help us to build relationships with others – even talking about our emotions helps us to establish deeper relationships with other people.
And much much more!

This beautifully written book will teach children the importance, and value of all emotions, helping them become more aware, and mindful of their feelings!
