In Irvine, California, Aurorette “Rory” Arrington is looking for a roommate. A person from London offers to pay rent six months in advance, giving her some hope. But then, Peter shows up, saying his sister is sick, causing Rory’s plan to fall apart. Even though she promised to have a female roommate, Rory agrees to let him stay instead.
They come from different backgrounds. Rory was born out of wedlock and then orphaned, growing up with her strict, old-fashioned aunt. Peter was born with a silver spoon in his mouth and little to no responsibility. One is a naïve, impulsive young woman, while the other is an unruly young man who suddenly has to shoulder significant family responsibilities. While learning to coexist, Rory discovers one of his secrets, only to later realize that a different secret could be used to ruin her life.
